Anyone know how to test to see if your Block heater cord is actually powering the block heater? This morning i started my car and it cranked like it has not been plugged in at all. Normally the car cranks right up no problems and the oil temp gage is moveing after 2 min, but not this morning. I checked my extension cord and it is fine. I hope its not the Block heater cord.
Any Info would be cool!
Thanks

I do
Get a multimeter. Set the meter to Ohm's setting & touch the meter's probes to the 2-blade plugs of the block heater plug (when UNPLUGGED!). If it reads 0 (or close to 0) -> the block heater is getting power when it is plugged in.
I had my cord plug go on me this winter (cord at the plug sparked & caught on fire  when I was plugging it in).
So I went to Home Depot & picked-up a heavy duty 3-prong plug. Cut the old plug off. Stripped the 3-wires. Checked the wires are ok with ohm setting on multimeter. Connected new plug & wrapped electrical tape around the cord near the plug (for better strength for the cord near the plug).
Good thing it was working this morning for me, it was -25C/-13F :(

Yeah, that was an average day for us. It's only around minus 30 C with the windchill now, that is pretty damn hot!
