That looks really neat and good find:thumbs: but wouldn't you have to get a new computer as well and what would it do to gas mileage?

heard of it and that's about it... safest i heard you could open up the motor to .. safely was 2.5L but i duno... eh.. it's your call take the dive.. I'm thinkin' boost or the gm supercharger which is a bit safer and cost friendly..

Thanks for your input spy. I wasn't sure about the gm supercharger i know it will bolt-on perfectly but what about the pcm upgrade/reflash I know that is designed for the cavy/sunfire pcm, is the pcm upgrade compatoable aswell?

interesting but i'd want some research & dynos & people who have it's opinions first... or some kind of warranty if they are confident the engine won't crack... that would be.. quite a freaking interesting thing to do to keep the car all n/a... im starting to get a little leary about turbo or sc for daily driving

leary? awww why? that's why we have boost controllers.. low everyday boost and than high awesome track day boost.. and plenty of fuel to keep things ship shape.. ;)

here's what i know about the gm supercharger... it's meant for the 2.4L that is EQUIPPED w/ the GETRAG manual transmission which has been available on 01+ grand ams...

why? well i don't know.. I can only guess that the ecu for the automatics are a bit trickier...

2.4 w/ a getrag between the alero, grand am, cavalier and sunfire should all have the same programming.. It is the same motor same exact transmission so I would just ASSUME they would have the same programming. Only difference that I can tell is that the J-bodys are just lighter, have their fuses in different places due to space constraints .. and **** like that..

***'s red show car has the 2.4 in an auto equipped w/ the very same supercharger albeit an older "test" version which they kept on the motor for over 100,000 miles before that motor went kablooey.. so reliability shouldn't be a problem w/ it.. :)

And there was a guy on Jbody.org that dynoed the kit w/ a header and exhaust and possibly a couple small things... He got about 180-190hp to the wheels... Looks like the super is worth it for the people who want a factory warranty and a nice little kick in the pants.. :)

the price of the kit DOES include the reflashing of the pcm... that's what i'veheard and that's what everythign I've read says... :)

I like boost... I prefer spooled boost.. I'm getting spooled boost... that's my end of the story.. and here's another end of the story.. gm supercharger much more reliable and better than the RSM supercharger unit for the 2.4

Hey Rick, if you plan on staying NA, than I don't see anything wrong with the stroker kit. But in no way would I do the kit AND go with boost. Either the SC or turbo kind. I looked into this exact kit after spy pointed it out a while ago, and it does work, but it has a couple drawbacks. Let's see if I can explain this right without visuals....what the people i've talked to tell me, is that the pistons actually move more. Like front to back. Picture a tall building swaying back and forth. That's your piston. Now picture it swaying more, that's your piston with the stroker kit. A lot more potential to actually hit the walls. Dunno if it's actually happen, but it could be a possibility. And from looking at the specs, looks like most of the gains would come from the higher compression anyway, not the longer stroke.

By the way, I could totally be wrong on EVERYTHING I just said, that's just what I was told when I asked a couple people about the kit. I know nothing about stroker kits, just what i'm told. If i'm way off, someone please correct me.

i can tell you one thing.. larger bore means thinner walls.. thinner walls mean melt down w/ boost.. means blown up motor in due time..

ya know i have a great idea if you really have patience.. dump $6 or 7g's on mantaparts doorstep and have them build you the ultimate quad 4 motor.. I believe it comes with a 2.3HO head w/ a 2.4 block and all sorts of goodies on it.. put it simply a N/A beast of a motor!!!! someone on j-body.org had it done.. adn well damn. that was a long thread..
