Anyone know the stock pipe size on the new 2.2 ecotec? Is is 2" and less than that ? I think its something I should know before I go and get my exhaust done.

Regardless of what it is, go 2.25 inch if you get a custom exhaust done, mandrel bent of course, if you can get it.

yes go with 21/4 perfect size unless going forced induction 3inch all the way baby!!!:D :D

oh and btw it must be mandrel bent or it is waste of time!

Ok sounds good guys , but.... all the mufflers Ive been looking at have a 2.5" inlet , should I run the 2.25" piping up to the muffler then have a 2.5" piece that works right into the muffler ?
will that mess up the back pressure up or what ?

Which muffler are you looking at? They usually make most performance mufflers in 2.25 inch in and out. I did read in a Sport Compact Car article that putting a slightly larger muffler diameter than the pipe size will sometimes help power out a tad, probably not very noticeable though. I'd find a 2.25 inch straight through muffler like a magnaflow or dynomax ultraflow. If you do go with one like that, definetally go with a 4 inch round magnaflow, 2.25 inch in/out muffler to use as a resonator before the main muffler. It won't hurt flow at all, but will mellow out the exhaust note and reduce interior resonance a lot.

I was looking at getting a Apex'i/ractive/which ever is best Twin canister Muffler , it has a 2.5" inlet and a 3" outlet , I saw that magnaflow makes a similar one , any Idea how it sounds?

Heres a pic to give ya an Idea

A muffler like that will make your car sound like a bumblebee. Or as we refer to it on this site "a fart pipe". I agree that they look nice on the right car, but the chamber on those style mufflers is so small it does little to quiet the exhaust note. To each their own, but I would recommend a Magnaflow in your case. They are good looking, moderately loud, and have a deeper sound. It's your money, so do what you like best!

I'd have to agree. Those reactive mufflers are fairly cheapo, they use a lourvered core instead of a perforated core, which is much better. If you can find a real Apexi WS muffler, those are top notch quality and performance wise.

I have an arospeed muffler, which many would think would sound like a bumble bee. It doesnt! Its a great, deap rumble. Do what ever suits your tastes, and have fun with it!

BTW, My piping is 2.25, and works great.

Ok so ractive is definatly out , and for the record Im not lookin for that "bumble bee/fart " tone , If I wanted a **** burner Id have one:D , Rba007 I assume that the inlet on your arospeed muffler has an inlet of 2.25" ?

go with the magnaflow I have that on my spec and it sounds very good. You have very similar displacement so the sound should be about the same!

sounds like a plan , every I seen that has some sort of magnaflow on their cars love em , so I guess I cant go wrong with that , you wouldnt happen to have any pics or sound clips ?

oh yeah by the way , how much did it run ya ?

say I was to go with straight pipes, stock tube size. would I lose any power at all? A freind of mine did it on his GT and lost power. but then sexysteve did it and he's runnin low 15's all motor.

It will be identical in flow to adding a magnaflow type muffler (straight through). I don't see how you could lose power with stock diameter piping, only if you made the piping real short, like running an open downpipe.

I think you would loose all backpressure which would indeed give you less power. This is what I've gathered from the millions of exhaust threads on the old forum.

So I went to monroe muffler today and got a price for the mangaflow 14805 mirror stainless steel muffler + installation , they say it would run around 400, seems a bit high ? I dunno this is only for one muffler . any thoughts anyone ?
