But how much hp is Spaz making to get those numbers. Plus slicks, or regular everyday tires? Asking that because if your running on daily driver tires and he's getting some wheel spin, he could probably drop that time by .2ths or more by going with slicks.

*grins*
West coast has something brewing though, just give it a little while ?_?

14.25, man thats a good # for a GA.

I know there's a guy in Denver with a magnacharged Grand Am; he was running 15.1-15.2 @ 89-90 mph. This is at 5,000 feet. At sea level, he would fore sure be in the mid 14s. He's a tech at a dealership, so he has his car tuned good. I've never seen him on the boards though. Guy, are you here????????? Step in man!!! He said his buddy, another GM tech, was getting the RSM supercharger kit with a tad more boost than stock. Should be interesting. The best my car is able to muster is 15.5 @ 89mph. It bogs from the start, but pulls much better from a roll for some reason. Hmmmmmm

Seriously, 89mph traps should be low 15s with ease. Time for a better, higher stall converter.

Me likey compition!:p

This is the kind of thing we need to get people to sit up and go "uh, what the hell, that GA just ran in the mid 14's".

This is going to fun, can't wait to get mixed up in this stuff. Just what we need to get attention at the local tracks too. You bust out with something faster than the rest and the rest will do anything to reclaim there top spot. Just what I like to see, we might actually surpise ourselves and clock some sweet times that were never really thought possible since we don't have a vast amount of aftermarket stuff for our cars.

Makes me think of the ol' hot rod days where you actually had to make your own parts to try to go faster than the comp. you against because they didn't have aftermarket suppliers to help them, it was up to the driver to take his or her car into their garage and spend the weekend trying to make better and faster parts to out gun the comp.

If you put a good set of M/T's on the front and have just right power we "could" crack the 12second barrier. I've noticed alot of you guy's are just having trouble with whell spin, fix that and you drop almost a half a second depending on how bad your wheels spin at the start.

Load the car up with all the StreetA. stuff they've got then add a S/C or a turbo charger then add the headers and the exhaust and your in the 300+hp area easy. Add slicks for no wheelspin and all go and your have a d*amn fast time once you drop some level 10 stuff in there to make sure the tranny can handle the power you have going to it. Plus isn't there somebody working on a turbo that can produce over 350hp? I want to know who that guy is. I'm very interested in that and willing to drop some cash on the table if its true.

*rolls up sleeves* I'm up to that challenge, are you?
NOTE: likes to set ballisticly high goals.:p

p.s. Its smart to just buy a cheap used GA and use the cash you saved for the aftermarket crap. Picked my GT up for only 9500 dollars and the thing was in good condition with 45000 miles. Better than buying new for 20grand, voiding the warranty because the crap your putting into it and having everything total out to more than 30grand. A new car with no warranty is not a good thing, got it;)

black99gt

Wolf youve got a point.

But dont forget... The LESS wheel spin... the MORE abuse the transmission will take.

So ive heard the GA pushes the tranny limit with just a SC.. that runs what.. some where around 240-260hp?

Add 60-40 more horses and slicks... Get 2-3 runs down the strip and buy a new tranny? You HAVE to have wheelspin. No wheel spin = Tranny Shock.

Add slicks to a WRX and even stock you will blow the gears clean away

No, but seriously forks, my dad (who just happens to have a 3000GTVR4) has talked to a lot of technicians at a bunch of Mitsu dealerships about people dragging their VR4's in for tranny work after blowing it with slicks on...

Like black said, unless you're prepared to get a better tranny than what level 10 can offer, plan on dealing with some wheel spin...

WOLF
09-12-2002, 08:02 PM
Well, I meant spinning the wheels at the start to the point that it really hurts you time wise. Not the little spin sqeek that only lasts for a few feet and then your blasting off. I get that all the way to third gear right now with the darn Vette(auto), shift sqeeeeeek. Its cool but it will waste your tires so quick, thank God you guys don't have to pay $400+ for just 1 replacement tire. I hate Goodyear for that ballistic price.

*skips to different subject*

Who is it that is working on a turbo though?

A GA that can crack the 400hp barrier should run mid 12's with a GOOD set of tires. That's what I want to see.

By the way, why hasn't anybody gone out and bought the whole SA stuff that claims a hp increase of 60hp, add those just released headers good for 15hp, add exhuast 10hp, then S/C it and top it off with the level10 kit. That should easily blast you past 325hp. Weighting 3100lbs (300+lbs less than a Z28) should give you mid-low 13's I would think.

You read my mind. With all that work 13's should be easy. Only problem is that's about $10-12g's. You could go really insane and do what Allmotor's doing + all of the above +slicks, and maybe top it off with a 75 shot (conservatively speaking) and you'll see 12's. :D

Hmmmmmmmmm:D

anything can fit w/ the right amound of $$$, and i'm sure it can cuz didn't an alero have an LS1 in it? the one w/ the body kit that had big open rectangles in the front? was that an LS1 or a NorthStar, can't remember.

WOLF

Plus there was somebody Bob Lutz has worked with that dropped a 327 small block in a much smaller car, a current Caviler, so a 346 shouldn't be that hard to drop in there (yes, its not 350 its actually 346 for the stock LS-1)

One question I wonder about:confused:

Why doesn't our GT's have the same type of 3.4L that the minivans have? They get 185hp and they don't have "RAM AIR" plastered on the sides of the doors. It's only a stupid 10hp increase that would be easy to do, right? Then why didn't they do it? that would easily drop a good .2 seconds or more. Hey, every little tick on the clock counts right!:)

How much hp are you making to run 14 flat like that?

Reason I'm asking is I want to compare with other cars that have around the same weight as our GA's do and figure out a hp-to-weight ratio too. See how effective are engines are compared to others.

I kinda thought the Top speed was slow, I'm running 225/50/15 fronts. Good for 1/8 mile but hurting my top speed.

I'm running the same shot I have for the last 3 1/2 years.
125

FYI. NOS rates there kits on the amount of N2O that flows through the jets in a certain period

so who knows what it is actually giving the car

I was hoping for a sub 2 second 60' time but I did'nt get it
Best was 2.011

Nice setup he's got there, although I think he may be overestimating HP by possibly 20 or so. Those 17" drag radials will slow him down compared to what he could run with 16s. I'll guess mid 14's in the high 90's on the juice.
