Okay, This has most likely been asked many many many a times....but how the heck can I get to my rear speakers so I can change them, do I have to pull up the backboard? Plus does anyone know a really good idea on how do get that backboard from rattling, I mean, I never thought that two 12' JL type 0's would be able to put as much bass as they are putting out. Also, any suggestions on 6x9's? Oh, by the way its a 97' GT Coupe.

I have a '98 GT coupe, and I put the rear speakers in my friends '97 Se coupe. It is quite a project.
I will admit to not looking at the link posted above regarding the newer models - I'm short on time - so pardon if this is similar, but for the record:
You will have to remove the rear seat, the rear upper side seatbelt mounts, the rear upper side plastic trim panels, and THEN the rear deck piece kinda sorta comes out with a little gentle persuasion and careful flexing.
Once the rear deck is out, change your rear speakers, whatever suite your fancy. As for sound damping - I suggest a thin foam pad glued down in pieces over the areas where the rear deck piece makes contact with the sheetmetal underneath. Also look into getting foam material between all the wire loom underneath (in the trunk) and the metal it's connected too, those like to rattle as well. Lastly, either gluing down pieces of foam or with the foam tape I love so much, get some protection between the 3rd brake light and the rear glass, and take a few preventative measures with those plastic side panels as well. ;)
Good luck, keep us posted!
