Well I learned my lesson on not to blast the sub when its 10 below outside. Im looking for a 10inch that when wired up will show a 4 ohm load. It'll be used with a MTX 4202 (http://www.circuitcity.com/frame1.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0746378562.1047669004@ @@@&BV_EngineID=ccdjadchkjhhhiicfngcfkmdffhdffl.0&upper=head.jsp&lower=frame2.jsp&left=leftchildcat.jsp&right=productsearch.jsp&department=Car+Audio+and+Security&category=Car+Amplifiers) . Thanks for your reccomandations.

Edit: Oh forgot to say I'm trying to keep it under a hundred bucks too.

JL 10W04, Eclipse 86100.4, Adire Tempest, Treo TS 10.4, Punch HE 1410, Thunder 6104, Xtant A104.... I could make this list 3 pages long, lol

Depending on the box, the JL 10W0 would be my first pick. Retail is $99, you can find 'em for $89 or less online or around town if you shop carefully.

Pretty much. That and box type - you already have the box, yes? Get a sub that will work in the size and type of box you have, that is from a brand you like, with a sound you like. There are a TON of good $100 woofers on the market right now. ;)

So it's true. I thought my ears were playing tricks on me. When it's colder outside, you get less bass. At least that's what I hear, or think I hear on the stock radio system.

i knew it also! where i live when the winters are -30*Celcius always coming home from work i'd throw in a cd and was worried my subs got stolen... there is SUCH A DRAMATIC difference in performance that depended on the weather... but it was warm today and boy oh boy could i feel them :)

actually, i have read that your spl should increase due to the colder air being more dense and being able to compress better. this is talking about the cabin air being cool though, not your subs and amps being frozen ;)

Check you PM's.

I sent you an offer because I have a 10' MTX sub that I have right now hooked to a MTx 4202 amp. I dont need them anymore so I need to get rid of them for some cash.

I sent the offer, if you like it hit me back up and I am also flexible with it too. Email @ TJX9681@attbi.com

I pulled the sub out of the box today, it doesnt look blown everything is still in tact but something wlse could of went wrong that i cant see on the outside. One of the things I found though is where the speaker wire connects to the terminal is that its melted. One of the terminals is melted off the plastic and is just hangin here. Email me for more pics.

does the cone move in and out like it normally should? or has the whole assembly seized up

everything moves like it should, so i have no clue. just ordered a infinity refrence 1020w new sub (http://rogue.cardomain.com/?DC=SD_shopall_sky&DH=Y&TARGET=skyscraper) final price was 61.35 with shipping. I thought I couldnt go wrong with a 30 day return period and 1 year warranty.

Its kinda strange cause this is how it went on that cold day. We were cruising to the casino worked fine the whole way, about half hour. Come back from losing some money and works fine the first 15 minutes, then it cuts out for 5-10 and comes back on tillwe get back. Go to class later in the day work fine for the 2 minute ride. Start the car up after class and it works untill i cahnge tracks. After that didnt work for anything. I then check all my inout wires and the test with my friends sun, hook it up to my amp and his sub works fine. So i came to the conclusion my sub was shot casue I found this melted plastic thing that i dont think should be melted.

Sounds like your tinsel leads crossed and shorted. The system was on/off because they were touching and then weren't, and then finally they touched long enough to finish the job. You're lucky your amp survived.

Melted things are usualy bad. ;)

Tinsel leads would be the silver things running to the cone or whatever its called right?

There was this black sealant type stuff around where the sub gets screwed down can I reuses this stuff or should I scrape it off and get new stuff. If I need new stuff whats it called

actually, it's a scientific fact that sound carries better in colder air. Hence the reason for jets and airplanes sounding way louder in the winter months flying overhead
