Currently, I am running 200 watts to a MTX 6000 10" with upgraded front components, and the stock rears, but with one of the two plugs disconnected for the rears essentially killing the stock amp and running only deck power for the rears...

It sounds pretty good, and the sub hits decent, and I have the non monsoon system... I was wondering, will upgrading the head unit give me any better sound quality? I know I'd be able to fine tune the speakers with the crossovers in the new deck (deciding between a new alpine or pioneer) and so clarity i know will be there.... what about overall bass? overall loudness? will i notice a difference?

The main reason i'd get a new deck is for MP3... but if the sound quality isn't going to go up, then hell, i'd rather spend the 400 bucks on other things...

thanks

a new head unit is definetely essential
it gives you lots more clarity and quality
just a good idea for any system, usually this is the first thing people get

ya... basically, say this.. Do you REALLY care about how it sounds? if you are just an average joe about sound, then spending the extra cash on it wouldn't really be worth it.
but if you like cleaner sound and planning on upgrading like more amps and more subs, it's a must... i'd like to see any above average system running off a stock deck and it being as good as it can be. I wasn't gonna get it when i got my amps and 2 subs, but im like "wait a minute.. prepare for long term. i'm really getting into the audio scene." so i got it and never regret it.
it also adds good looks to the dash of car as opposed to the stock deck look.

well the thing is, most people on this forum actually add a sub before anything else because you get the greatest gains for the amount of money... i'm sure most will back me up ont hat

I used to be in the scene a few years back sticking with nothing but premier decks and JL audios... now... with college bills still haunting me, i've been out of the loop, and have been putting more money towards my home thearer...

I guess now it's time for a deck upgrade.... i really love the organic displays of the pioneers, but the mp3 directory browsing is tooo slow compared to the excelons, alpines, and jvcs... maybe i'll wait for pioneer to upgrade the rest of the line because the 5500 has a much better file search.

Thanks all
