I just got this idea i thought i'd share with you guys and i am hoping to get some comments

I wanna rebuild my rear deck containing the 6x9's out of fiberglass except i wanna replace the 6x9's with four 8" Image Dynamic woofers. The part of the box you see in the car will be made out of fiberglass and the part you see in the trunk will be made out of plexi and wood and some mirror panels inside. Lastly there will be a 20" tube of green neon and a 4 green strobes for effect.

Not totally crazy I've seen 3 8" JLs mounted in a custom enclosure made around the rear deck. I'm thinking 4 8s will be a squeeze but still 3 should be plenty of bass. Not an easy project but the results are sweet.

Project just got a little more pricey as each Image Dynamic's IDQ8 comes in at $300.00 apiece...

How do JL's compare price-wise in an 8" model?

dude, one word. Elemental.

Their A series which is the link i gave you is their best line up.
A very underground company that is very hot this year, check out their praise @ www.caraudio.com .....
but anyways, pick up 3 8" D4 v.c A series... buy directly from them and they are only 180$... great price.
those are my only recommendations right now for an 8"....
don't go the JL way, don't be like 100000 other people in North America.

also make sure the deck is strong, secure, and heavy enough that it'll stay where u want it to and not hop around and vibrate

There's a reason those 100000 people went JL.... ;) There are plenty of good options, Elemental is one of them. Do a little homework, find your preference. The new 8W7 is a tad more than the IDQ's, and the 8W3 isn't as sexy looking from behind, though it's an excellent choice and not too expensive.

I am actually planning on doing the same thing on my car, in a slightly different manner. I'm deciding between 4 6w0's (JL's 6.5 inch sub), 3 8IB4's (freeair JL 8's), 2 8w3's, or a single 8W7. Decisions, decisions. :p

First off, design the enclosure such that the amount of metal cut from the trear deck is minimal. That steel does serve a purpose relating to the structural rigiidity of your car! Secondly, mounting will be an issue to take seriosly. Box from beneath and subs down from above? Tough design, but great results. Whole thing from below? A lot simpler to make, but it'll take more room in the trunk and means more suspended weight. You get the idea, there are options to weigh here, so take your time. The main concern I am dealing with now is ensuring no rattles between the box and the deck itself.

Keep us posted, and have fun!
