Any TSB's or recalls on the painting of SC/T hoods??

Hey all,

I've recently been hearing of issues with the painting of the SC/T hood.

Guru2 I believe even had an issue early on. So, my question is, has anyone been back to the dealer to see about getting it re-painted? Have they covered it? And have they given you grief?

I know Erika, (01GTgirl) has a bunch chips in it. And she only had it for bout 4 months!!! :eek:

She was telling me about that today..... I know Nikki has had some recent issues as well. I'd hate to get a car with the hood and have these issues.....

Yeah, some of them are really bad, and the dealer yesterday told me that "it doesn't necessarily mean it's a problem with the painting" ....well, i had my stock hood for a year and a half and there are no chips, and i got the SC/T one on October 18th. I didn't spend close to $1300 for it to need repainting already. If he's gonna blame the weather on it, then i'll throw in his face how if it can't stand one winter, then obviously it is a poor paint job. there is NO reason whatsoever that it should have 25-30 chips in it (not to mention the small gash around the end, where pieces can be pulled off....) i live 3 miles from work and don't always drive, cuz i hope a ride with dad....i haven't put more than 5000 miles on it since then, i doubt it's even 4000.....

as you can tell, i'm not a happy camper...

EDIT: these chips/peelings are also ONLY on the hood, not on the bumper or window, and most are on the front of the hood, but some are even up on the sides, so this leads me to believe that they are not all from rocks/driving...

Yep...mine are not rock chips tho. There are a few different areas where there are tiny white marks all in a bunch (kinda looks like white paint splatter). There's no way rock chips can be like that all clustered together in certain areas. Plus, I've only had my car for like 2 months...didn't notice it when I picked it up cuz it was in the Winter and got dirty right after I drove it off the lot.

No service bulletins.. I doubt they would make one for repainting of parts because there are alread sections on that in the service manuals.. TSBs are more common fixes to common problems, since the common fix for chips is to repaint I doubt you'll ever see one... but it's still possible, but you have to go to the dealer and report it before it's ever gonna become a common problem

I think new cars are gonna be different then hoods that don't come from the factory... Erika just sounds like you had a shotty paint job and Nikki go back to the dealer and get that fixed :)

I believe the reason for this is, when the dealerships got them, and were swaping the old hoods with the new ones, they rushed the painting process. I know for a fact at the dealership i go to, there were people who were so impatient and wouldnt buy the car without the hood. So they would make them come back hours later.

Anyways, a quality paint job will last forever. So get it repaired at their cost!

I haven't had issues yet, but I took mine to the guy who does all of my car work. He wet sanded, re-sealed/primered just to be safe. So far, it is paying off I guess!

Hopefully these dealerships will take the responsibility for the and take care of your problems.

well i had tons of issues with my front bumper after i got hit and had a new one put on...the whole front started peeling away...they said that the paint was a brittle paint when they put it on...its not a sct hood but they did repaint the front end for free

Nikki, I live in Royal Oak. I may buy an 03, with hood. What dealer did you buy yours from?
