This is the part you need to fix your HVAC blower fan when you can only get good air flow when you have it on the "3" setting.
Part #: 15359314
GM List: $23.09
GMParrtsDirect.com: (www.gmpartsdirect.com) $11.54

Thanks for the blower part number - mine just quit on me. How do I install the part? Is it a complicated procedure?

I just ordered the resistor part. The price was only $11.54. But the shipping was $7.95!! Yikes.

I'm wondering the same thing... seems like almost everyone got this replaced under warranty... but mine didn't go until about 6 months after warranty was up.

You'll need to remove a panel underneath the passenger side of the dash. Be carefull pulling it out since some of the ductwork hooks up to it (if memory serves). Then you'll need to look underneath the HVAC assembly right near the blower fan motor. You'll see a wire harness plugging into the resistor. Unplug it and then remove the two screws holding the resistor on. I believe they are 7mm, maybe smaller though. Once you get the screws out it just pulls out. Then put in the new one. The hard part really is just getting to those screws with a socket driver or wrench, a real pain in the you know what. Be prepared for putting yourself into interesting positions in order to get to those screws removed and put back in and tightened. I was a bit sore once I was all done. I used a 1/4" drive socket driver that is very compact in design to get to them. If you have a swival head or something like it will make your life easier.:)

I just had my local mechanic replace the part - he charged me an hour's worth of labor. It was well worth it. It's great to have my low speed fan back! The old part was all cracked and burned out.

It might be easier to change if you spend the time and energy pulling out the passenger seat there are only 2 bolts and after you have stood on your head for about 15 minutes you will wish you had taken it out.

its not to hard to install,i did it myself and had no clue what i was doing and was done in 15 mins tops
just took awhile to figure out how to get down there
the best way i found out was to go thru the driver door and laying on your with your head down on the passenger side floor

Also see check out thread: Replacing the fan blower resisitor (http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1346)
I just replaced the blower resistor today. Many thanks to the good people on grandamgt.com for providing the info. I'd be lost without it.
I found the old part from the factory was different from the new replacement part. The old is p/n 52472768 and has a green card with black connector. The new is p/n 15359314 and has a black card with blue connector. Does anyone know why?
I was worried when I found there wasn't enough room to use a regular-size ratchet. Luckily I found a handy little tool from Canadian Tire called a Flex Handle. It cost $12 CDN and made the whole job do-able.
Just to share what I found: I used a 7mm socket to remove the panel underneath the glove compartment and a 7/32" socket to remove the resistor itself. Why I needed to use one metric and one imperial, I don't know. Shouldn't they be all metric or all imperial and not a combination of the two?
Once again, thanks to everyone for the helpful info!

I jsut did this tonight also...what a freaking easy job conceptually. Does anyone have a stinking clue why GM would put the resistor pack in the back with a dinky little access cutout for your ratchet? This made a 20 minute job more like 40-60 minutes! LOL I personally found it much easier to just take the three blower screws out and remove the blower motor itself.
This enabled me to get to the resistor easier. Still **** poor thinking with that kind of access!! My poor hands!

How many screws are there on the panel under the dash? I'm trying to do this right now and I removed 3 but it still is stuck in there. Does anyone want me to upload pics cause I have a digi cam if that would help people explain it to me.
Thanks

You can post pics. You are still trying to get the cover/shroud off?

Thanks for the offer, I ended up taking a break for a while then I got back to it. Got the last screw, the rest wasnt too bad except the last screw that holds the resistor in (the one in the back) took me about an hour on and off trying different makeshift things to unscrew it. Finally got it out. The rest went pretty fast. Thanks for all the forum advice guys.

I found this little doohickey at Sears I instantly remembered my fight with the resistor and bought it without hesitation. It has a ratchet set (square thingy but female) and a hex shape on the other side for bits. Hey I can rember many times I could have used this and it was worth $2.
