A new design intake gasket, P/N 89017279, has been released for service on the 3.1 and 3.4 engines and is currently available from GMSPO. The material used in the gasket has been changed in order to improve the sealing qualities of the gasket. The instruction sheet sent with the gaskets advises the technicians to replace the intake bolts with new ones that have a thread locker adhesive added. Currently the new bolts are unavailable from SPO. In the interim, the technicians are to clean the existing bolts and then apply a thread locking adhesive, P/N 12345382, and tighten to a new torque specification.

The new torque specification is a 2-step process; tighten the vertical lower intake manifold bolts (the four middle ones) to 7 N·m (62 lb in). Tighten the diagonal lower intake manifold bolts (two on each end) to 7 N·m (62 lb in). Tighten the vertical lower intake manifold bolts (the four middle ones) to 13 N·m (115 lb in). Tighten the diagonal lower intake manifold bolts (two on each end) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

i'm curious, does this new part number include the complete gasket set, meaning the valve cover gaskets, misc gaskets, etc?

I don't know, I'd check your parts counter at a dealer and ask..

doubt it this is like the 3rd number change on the 3.4/3.1 intake gaskets. GM has upped the min. valve cover gaskets that dealers can order at a time so I dont hold your breath.

It's about time right.

We got a bulletin on this about a month ago.

I gotta say though "most" of the ones I had to do where leaking more from the factory permatex seal rather then the actual gaskets themselves.

It's the the part where the intake mani actually meets the block.
At the very middle bottom of the lower intake they use a sealant, even from the factory, and thats what I've seen leaking most profusely on the LG8's and LA1's.

But then again I HAVE seen quite a few also JUST leaking from the lower gasket. You can see the seapage right on the side of the motor:nono:

And I do believe the bulletin said that it came with:
V. cover gaskets, both lower and upper gaskets, improved permatex sealant, thread locker sealant, the dummy shaft seal, and new lower bolts.
