I'm about to order a SC/T hood from the dealer. I was looking at one installed on a GA on the dealer lot and noticed the nostrals were bloked off by black plastic grilles. Do these come installed on the hood and how easy are they to remove and replace. I'd like to remove them when I get the hood painted to make sure that inside the nostrals is painted (as much as you can see) and reinstall them afterwards. When the funtional air box is released I will remove the grills permanently. Seems like they would be very difficult to remove/install.
Also, do the hoods require any triming to get a good fit on the vehicle before painting?
Thanks,
Mike

Two Screws on each one and they come right out. I have the hood On my car. In fact you choose what you want to have. I just have the Grills in so the underhood get air from them.

I am also curious as to how the gm sc/t hood comes. Do the grills screw in(like you have said) or attatch with an adheisve? My bro has a '02 from the factory and the grills are bonded with heavy black adhesive. My hood is coming in on wed and i am wondering if i should tell the shop not to install the grills, so i dont have to pry them off. Im hoping to create my own RA setup to my K&N cone. Thanks, this is my first post.

mine had 2 screws one in each side of the grill then a small thin foam thingy around the backing plate just for cushion

Mine (on a brand new car) was screwed in, then surround by a black, cement like adhesive. which, by the way, was a BITCH to scrape off. I have a feeling if your buying the hood to add onto an already purchased car it wont have that though.

Yeah thas how my bro's 02 is set up, thanks for the info. Also does anyone know if alot of water will get through the openings (driving in heavy rain). Also does anyone use a hood pad (modified if they do use one) after removing the grills. Does it function for anyhting other than sound reduction? Can the paint be damaged if it is not used?

My 03 didnt even come with one (heat pad).
I started a thread awhile ago about the water thing, as I had the same concern. seems the general concensous is that nothing will be harmed.
I have a optima redtop so I'm gonna try and get some of those post adapters that cover the posts, just to be sure :)

On the "Products" page, the hood is listed as $747 dealer cost. I went to the dealer yesterday and they said the hood was $947. Is the $747 the cost wich the dealer gets the hood for and then they mark it up $200?
Anyone have a pic of the underside of the hood? I've been looking at the links in everyone's sig with the SC/T hood but can't find one. Just curious how the RA is ducted to the airbox.
Thanks

I haven't had any issues with my grills being opened. If you're having a shop paint your hood, tell them to leave the grills off and give you the bag of goodies (the block off plates, foam tape, grills, screws, etc.) that way you can decide how you want to have your hood look. I used the grills that came with the hood as templates to cut my own Gutter Guard grills to match the other grills on the car. I've only once had the block offs on the grill and that was due to a really heavy storm (like it rained for 2-3 days straight). Since then I haven't had them installed and it has rained quite hard at times. Only thing was my K&N got a little wet, but nothing that would do any damage to the engine. Only downside is you have to recharge your filter a little more often and be sure to vacuum off the dead bugs every month or so.

correct me if i am wrong, but there is no RA kit. you need to use a cone filter in place of your regular airbox/filter, since the air is now coming from the top.

You are correct, currently there is no RA kit to route the hood vents to the airbox. The GM sc/t hood doesnt even have a routing system of any form to get the air to the airbox. I have a 7" cone and it is in the bottom half of the air box. Im constructing the rest of box from lexan to accommodate the sc/t hood openings.

How about making our own ram air engine intake by using black lustran from McMaster, heat cutting/bending it into proper shape, then topping the edges with trunk seal rubber. Think it will work?
Let me know, I don't have the hood yet, but I'd be willing to try to make the box.

yeah that sounds like a good idea to me. I just wished i knew about plastics and how to mold and work with them. Id have all kinds of cool things done to my car- like that.
heck if you can figure out how to do it right and make copies of it, make a lil money on the side and sell those babies. id buy one.
