hello
i am getting the rear disk brakes from a gt for a good deal from this dude, now i told him i need
hubs, calipers, pads, break lines and rotors, getting this all for 250 US shipped to canada, but if there is some other small parts i need let me know so i can add those up to the list, won't cost me any extra. Thanks

I may be very, very wrong, but with rear discs, isn't there some change in the master cylinder or porportioning valve to the rear that is different from the SE braking system? Not sure on this, but you might check it out so that it works correctly. Let us know how this goes as I'd love to do it to my SE. Good luck!
Brad

Mfuller... where are you???

did some checkups, and the master cylinder is identical

You might wanna try PM-ing mfuller about this... he's generally considered THE brake expert on this site.

I'm looking to do the same conversion and the answer I got was that the proportioning valve is PCM controlled and does not need to be changed. It automatically senses fluid flow and adjusts accordingly. I guess ABS is good for something! :D

only thing that i can think of is that it won't have 4 wheels ABS.

i thought they all had 4 wheel ABS?

i think i need a parking brake cable too right?

Yes ... SE and GT both have 4-wheel ABS. ALl you do is plug the disc sensor into the same plug as your drum was in. The ABS will still function properly.

You will need the parking brake cable. SOmeone told me it could be modified ... but for $10 ... it's just easier to buy the GT cable!

It has a sensor on the drum. I don't know how they proportion the fluid, etc. ... but the sensors are there.

they may have a sensor there..but i am almost positeve that a drum brake can not have ABS...ABS i was almost posive were for cars with rotors and pads..not drums

Nope, the SE with rear drums has ABS. ABS has nothing to do with the style of brake. It has to do with the modulation of the fluid as it is applied to the brake cylinder, be it a caliper or slave cylinder. Our cars have 3 ABS channels: LF, RF, and Rear. It can monitor and modulate each channel independently.

By changing from Drum to Disc is as simple as unplugging the ABS connector on the drum and re-connecting to the sensor on the disc. The connector is identical between drum and disc.
