Shelton Pontiac, Rochester Hills Michigan.
I had my LIM gasket changed about 3400miles ago. They told me they changed the oil, only to find out they didn't. I mark my oil filters with a big "X" on the end, that way I can always tell if its been changed when I occasionally get my oil changed by someone else. Well I changed my oil a last week, only to find out the old filter was on. Then when I went to put new oil in. What do I see on the cap and inside of my rocker cover?!?!? Coolant residue EVERYwhere. :rage: FYI, It looks like dirty mayo. So they didn't change my oil, or filter. If you're not familiar with what coolant will do to your motor inside the crankcase this wouldn't seem like a big deal. But I'm sure my bearings are toast. I'm going in for a major engine cleaning this week, I hope it gets it out, but the is pretty thick on everything. I feel so sorry for whomever buys this car off of me.

so why didn't you check to see if they changed it the day you got home from the service? i will be doing the same thing, marking the filter, when i take our car in for intake gaskets in a few weeks. and you can be sure i'll have the car up on my rhino ramps that evening checking it all out. don't trust anyone.

Good call!

I just had my gaskets replaced a month ago too..... two weeks later decided to do a routine check to see if all is kosher, found oil-type brown gunk residue floating everywhere in my coolant. Brought it to the dealer wondering WTH and they claimed it was gasket sealant that got in for some reason - WTH?.... anyways, they cleaned it out - but i also saw the white Mayo-gunk under the cap of my coolant - Still an enigma it was under the coolant, and not the oil cap? I still don't get it.... and neither did they  *shrug*

The oil was changed, but thank god there were no traces of coolant in the oil reservoir. I would have flipped.

I'm expecting to pick up my GA tonight from the dealer for the LIM gasket leak. The service advisor told me they would change the oil to get rid of any coolant that found it's way in, but would only top up the coolant as needed.

My question is, even though they are changing the oil after they fix the gasket, should I do an early oil change and at what milage (after 1000miles, 2k, 3k, etc)?

Do it as soon as you leave. It's cheap and worth it. Oh, as a followup I have some MAJOR lifter noise now. They say it's normal. :nono:

Just to clairify MIAaron, do you suggest I change it immediately even though they changed it after their job.

As for dealerships, don't get me started. The guy who helped us usually works in the shop, and he told us to leave the car there even though they couldn't work on it for about 3 days. He said if it was his car he wouldn't drive it any more than necessary to get it fixed. Then he sent us to the regular service advisor to log the car. She asked us if we wanted them to just fill the coolant so we could keep driving the car and then bring it in when we felt like it. She's such a moron (this is the second time I had to deal with her, so it wasn't a one time stupid thing she did/said).

I was told by the service manager that if I change the coolant from Dex it will void my extended warranty.

YES!! It's $20, just do it. They told me they did, but the ****s lied! Maybe wait a 100miles, that way if they DID change it then you have some new oil in there that MIGHT help move some of the old sludge out of there.

I know they did change the oil, but not the filter. The oil was quite dark when I brought it in (I was acutally on my way to getting it changed when the low coolant light went on).

I think I'll give it a little time but still change it early (maybe around 1500miles)

They CANNOT void your warrenty due to what kind of fluid is in your car. Its like they recommend 5W-30, but if you put 10W in, your going to void your warrenty. He is bull****ting you. As most, you will void a warrenty on the water pump. Big deal, $50 and 20 minutes to do that.

They said the same thing about the tranny fluid. And that was from GMAC's warranty claims division.(forget what it's called)

Actually, THEY CAN. He's talking about an extended warranty, they can do whatever they want with those.

Besides, Dexcool has nothing to do with the gasket problems so why change?
