I know I'll probably catch a lot of crap for even asking, but I didn't see much info on this in the forums, so I need to ask. Has anyone ever tried one of these? I hear good and bad things, but I want other GAGT oners opinions. The idea sounds good, but I'm not convinced.
I also have one more question about the stock airbox. I've been reading up, and I've decided not to get a CAI (I just don't have the money to put into an engine rebuild if water happens to screw things up), but I was wondering if anyone had ever modified the stock airbox to increase flow? It seems like there's a lot of extra space in there for air to just float around. Couldn't you put something together to give it more direct flow to the intake?

Read and see for yourself...

I know at least 2 people that have actually installed it on a dyno and seen their power decrease. It might improve gas mileage some, but if you want better gas mileage, don't mod your car. So yes, it is a POS.

Check out some of the other performance "myths" on the 60degreev6 site while you are at it.

Have you checked your blinker fluid lately, GroovyGT?

LOL

Yeah, I think anyone who has anything good to say about these things is on the payroll.

I'm still waiting on my "million dollar idea" to make some quick cash off suckers.

Yeah man, blinker fluid's all good. I just checked it the other day. I think my high-beam oil's a little low though. Maybe you could help me figure out how to fill that one?
Ok, so spiralmax is a big POS...that answers that question. No one touched on my second one though. Has anyone thought about modifiying the stock airbox? I'm serious now, so no 'blinker fluid' comments, ok? I may be a newbie, but I'm not a dumbass. I've been looking at my airbox, and it definitely looks like it could have been designed better, there's just too much space above my K&N for air to just hang out. It could be channeled into the engine a lot better I think.

People have smoothed the airbox out and found better performance. But not many people dyno the cars with mods. So the gains are probably minimal at best (1-2hp). But aerodynamically the benefits seem reasonable.

Also, take off your tire and wheel well cover, and remove the second "Ramair" duct. You will see it ends right behind the headlight housing, it is a BS piece of pipe that does nothing. Seems like an afterthought, maybe GM wanted it to go down to the fascia, and then said the heck with it late in development.
You can make it more effective by taking out the whole tube in the fenderwell and then replace that with a tube (or dryer duct) that will feed the airbox air. You can keep the same elbow behind the washer fluid reservoir, so the whole setup will look stock when you look under the hood.

*However, THE BEST THING TO DO FOR INTAKE AIR, is the cold air intake. You will see a gain in HP, lbs-ft, MPG, and in sound. It is easy enough to install if you find the removal of this useles plastic tube mentioned above is all right.

You can pick one up at www.americanperformanceofcolorado.com

Good Luck, post how it turns out!

To add further to the instruction that Jaketuff put up.
