OK, For months now, I've been looking for a Single DIN install that has a 1/2 DIN EQ Opening. I bought the Metra and don't like how it looks. I have found 2 pics of a kit and the best I can find is that it is the Scosche with the pocket and has been modified to hold the EQ.
Can anyone PLEASE confirm this? Or, tell me what kit it is? Also, will it fit the '99 radio opening (pre-Monsoon)?
TIA ...

my kit has an opening for a 1/2 EQ. had a blank plate in it when I got it, then had the Fusion Xover/EQ in it, now switches, like this?

that kit is for a double din opening. you have a 99 which has a 1.5 din opening, so if you can somehow rig it to your equalizer flush mounts to you deck, i bet you can somehow make your own dash it??
or buy a din dash kit, and dremel it out a .5 din more?
best of luck!

Molson - that is the one I have and I am trying to find the one with the extension instead.
Everyone else - The pics look like it is made for a smaller opening than it is in... Is the Monsoon opening larger than double DIN?

Hmmm ... but look at my first 2 pics. The part of the kit that "extends" is much smaller than the opening in the console cover. I know my car has the 1.5DIN, BUT is that the opening in the console, or the opening in the console cover?
If the above kit does NOT fit through the 99 console cover opening, can I simply replace the console cover with a 2001+ or is the limitation in the console structure itself?

No clue, go measure it and try :) Never seen behind a pre-2k1 radio trim piece before.
Kit installed in a double din opening...

Craig,
I tried to do the same thing and it will not fit in the 99. I see what your saying though about replace the trim as well. I think that may work but cant say for sure. I still have the dash kit in my room collecting dust. if you want it give me like $10 shipped for it.

Could someone with the dash kit I posted at the top measure the width and height of the extended part of the kit? I'm thinking if it is close, I might just cut my console to fit it then fiberglass it in so it looks like a factory single DIN & 1/2 DIN opening.
TIA ...

the Monsoon IS NOT DOUBLE DIN it is 1.5.
Craig all of the pics you posted are pics of metra kits. people just put 1/2 din eq's in the extra slot
i personally fiberglass mine into a single din and am putting two voltage gauges right below the deck. let me know if you want some pics.

2001+ Monsoons are double din.
Heres a few pics from my "old" '01s Monsoon:

The older ones are 1.5 din.
Craig, I am like 90% sure that kit is from a late 90's Saturn Metra install kit. It can be made to work in a 99 or 00 1.5 din GA. Depth can be an issue with some decks, though. I will have to look next time I am near the install shop I used to work at.

Mike,
Thanx for the info! I did notice that the extended part does not match the opening in the dash which made me wonder if it was really even a Grand Am kit.
Whether I cut my console to allow this to fit, or use a 2001+ console, I think I will still glass it in to make it look "stock". And yes, please send me pics of you glass job! I'm also curious how you would go about applying the texture the console has on the glass.
Thanx!

Also, which Metra kit??? I purchased the only 2 Metra kits for 99+ Grand Am and they did not look anything like that! The ones I purchased mount the radio flush back on the mounting plane of the kit, or with the 1/2" extension plate, the HU mounts 1/2" out making it stick WAY out past the console. In my first 2 pics, it appears as if the HU mounts on the mounting plane and the 1/2" extension extends around the HU.
