I search a little bit here. I found out that there's Warm Air Intake vs Cold Air Intake. I know whats' a CAI but I dunno what is a WAI. I put my 9" K&N filter inside the fenderwell. So it's a FenderWell Intake(FWI). Can you guys post some pics of your intake system. So I can have more ideas?
Thanx alot.:D

Thanx alot men. Did your filter stuck inside the fenderwell? If so, how far inside the fenderwell? I saw you have a GT. Did the V6 SE has the same engine bay layout as the GT?

The Beretta's have the same basic layout as the GAs, so here ya go...

Yes, the filter is relocated into the fenderwell...this is the CAI. It's basically located a little bit lower than where the headlight is. Mine sits right behind/beside the windshield washer resevoir.
You can see it if you take the fog light out.

So basically, the WAI you guys refer to is actually CAI that's what we call. And your CAI is just the same as my FWI. Now I get it. So where did you guy bought those pipes for the CAI? Please don't tell me to go buy the $200 aftermarket CAI system. I always think those are insane. Why pay $200 for a plastic box, some pipes and filter while soomeone else can make it the same for say, $60?

LOL.... Its actually not that much. Its 3 90ºs, a 45º and a 22.5º. But it gets it up under the bumper more for more airflow. Of course, I lost the washer fluid tank and the horn in the process, but oh well... :boogie:

A Warm Air Intake, is one that is in the engine compartment. Some people take the top of their air box off and that is what you call a Warm Air Intake.
A Cold Air Intake, is one that is away from the engine. In our situation it is in our fenderwell where it is away from the engines heat. Hence Cold Air Intake.
Since a WAI is by the engine, the air it sucks in is warm. A CAI on the other hand is in the fenderwell, away from the engine heat, thereby sucking in "Cold Air". Hope that clears things up.

Go to the AEM website, they sell alot of those parts. Different diameters too. Just keep in mind that if we don't support the vendors that make parts specifically for our applications, they will not be around when you finally realize their value....

I don't have one... :p You don't have to buy one, you can just use the stock one that came with your car. All (I want to say) 96-up GM 3x00s use a MAF, so you can use the one you already have. If you feel the urge to spend more money, then you can replace the MAF with a "performance" MAF as stated above.

I noticed you have the stock Ram-Air peice left. Is it still functional or does it just sit there?
Also, I've seen someone's set up with the cone right behind the nostrils where the stock Ram-Air peice goes. Would that still be a CAI, since it catches the air before it gets to the engine, or would it being that close to the engine block heat the air up? Could you run dual cones, one placed mentioned just above and one running into the fenderwell?

It's just sitting there, it has no use.
And putting the cone filter right behind the nostrils, you would have to do some work to modify it enough. I'd still say you'd be pulling in a lot of warm air just sitting around and moving slowly. Not worth it enough to me. I think relocating into the fender is the best idea.

What Kind of Pipe and dimensions are that from hope depot!!! I've been looking for something like that!!!
2kramairGT
04-08-2003, 05:04 PM
Well, its the Civic SHort Ram tube from autozone $39.95. Its diameter was not as wide as the two 3" to 3" metal housed ruber couplers i got from home depot for $5 something each. Then i got that short peice of steel tube (3" to 3") from autozone for $1.50. THe red coupler with the two sensor gromets in it is from APOC about $10. Or you could take a regular coupler and buy the gromets, they are the same as those for running wires. The civic intake tube needs to be wrapped in some electric tape to make its O.D. bigger so the coupler will fit snuggly. Thas about it.

Which Pipe is this one? Look at Pic.
2kramairGT
04-08-2003, 06:38 PM
The pipe is the autzone steel exhaust adapter. It happen to be 3"O.D. to a 3" I.D.(but they also sell one that is 3"OD to 3"OD) I had to cut off about 3/4" off one side of it to get the MAF closer to the Throttle Body becaust the wire harness had to reach it.

In the circle that itlnrob drew on the pic, I just have a question....
I just took off the Ram Air setup, and just directly added a cone filter to the OEM MAF, no piping at all...
Now, would it be that much beneficial to get the APOC CAI with the added piping, like where the circle is in the pic???

Hey Craig... that's sweet. That is EXACTLY what I am looking to do with my car. Where did you get that stuff and how much? Let me know. I am trying to make an intake that I can hook up with my SC/T hood. I have a 7" K&N filter on the end of my GMS MAF and a tiny rubber coupling between the TB and the MAF but it looks ghetto and I want to move that intake a little further away from my engine so I can put a cold air box around it. Let me know. Thanks.

The intake is no longer available since RAT (http://www.ramairtech.com) no longer sells to the public.
The closest thing available right now is the RSM (http://www.rsmracing.com) intake:

highwayprowlerz - it is real easy to make on your own, it's just stainless tubing. I'd even try APOC for that, John got me a small piece for what I needed to do.
