I read this in a local newspaper last week Thursday.

V6 3.6-liter DOHC 24-valve, 255 hp at 6200 rpm and 252 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm

Yeah, and I read that's gonna be in their new small SUV too, but I think it will have a little more power sqeezed out of it. This is great news for the CTS too, and it should pull it in line with the Japanese competitors in the power area and the CTS-V should pull it in line with the European competitors.

Just wanted to point out that the new GTP outpowers this car and costs alot less. :D

But the Caddy's ride is more than likely much better and more classy :) Also, look at it's power out of a NA 3.6 compared to the SC'd 3.8 :)

Either car is kickass though, so who really cares?

"Want even better news? GM engineers say they can build a number of variants of the new engine, including 2.8-, 3.2- and 3.8-liter versions, naturally aspirated or turbocharged, with outputs ranging from 200 to upward of 370 hp and from 200 to more than 350 lb-ft of torque. The engines will be installed in fwd, rwd and awd configurations, as well as parallel gas-electric hybrid layouts. "

What RWD car would get the package? They only have a handful of cars with RWD, including the Corvette and the new GTO.

Car Craft's April issue (p.18) had an article on this engine. It is starting in Caddy, but supposedly will spread to the other division's cars. I hate to see the 200hp figure because that'll be the little 2.8L and they'll probably slap that in the GA instead of something more powerful.

Here are some other things it'll have: continuously variable valve timing, electronic throttle control, forged steel crank, coil-on-plug ignition, dual-stage variable intake manifold, and a 32 bit comp to control it all.

If 2 engines had identical HP and torque at identical RPM's and one was NA and the other was supercharged, I'd take the supercharged engine everytime because it is much easier to get performance gains from a forced inducted engine.

The CTS still handles circles around the GTP (and many German autos for that matter), is more luxurious, has decent power, has the option for manual, will be getting a 6 speed, and will be getting an LS1 in the CTS-v that should make the GTP look like a child's toy.

...now if only they'd do something about that horrible styling; it still hasn't grown on me a year after its debut.

As for the engine, I think that's great. Here's hoping they have the guts to put the 3.6L version in the upcoming GAs.

That should be interesting to see a child's toy take out a Caddy. Personally I'd rather have the 300HP V8 Northstar engine like in the STS, but the little NA OHC V6 in the CTS is kinda cutsie tootsie. My bicycle has a 12 speed and handles great too. It can run circles around a GTP just like the overpriced ackward ugly CTS, as long as the GTP is parked. :D

Think of it like this:

GTP = http://musclecar-logbook.net/GMC/1971%20Buick%20GS%20%200008.jpg

vs.

CTS = http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/classic_cars_archive/70_saab99turbo.jpg

Hey Mike, I'm not so sure I'd agree with your opinions on the CTS' styling, when you would prefer a Northstar to an LS1... :)

The CTSv will own all :) An LS1 in a car like that, I wish I had the money to buy that thing... Only two other GM cars I would rather have, XLR or a Z06... I'll get one one of these days :)

I was referring to the CTS-v owning the GTP, and with an LS1 and a 6-speed, how should it not? Even if it gets the Northstar it will have nice ownage.

wait.... STOP! Back up.. hit the brakes! Slam it into reverse and floor it! Throttle back at full speed!

nonononononononononononnonononononono...

I said I'd rather have a Northstar V8 than that little OHC V6.

IF they actually put the LS1 in the Caddy, then it will be a different story. HAD to clear that one up!!!! Whew!!

:)

I reluctantly agree almost. I am not sure about the Northstar.

Either way... the CTS is ugly and even the 04 Prix looks better IMHO.

If that classic Saab somehow was faster than that GSX Buick in the pictures, I'd still rather have the Buick. Those pictures almost perfectly represent how both of those cars (CTS and GTP) appeal or don't appeal to me.
