Just got home from cruising through a few local Pontiac dealerships. One lot had a brand spankin new 2002 Firebird. Now I love my Grand Am, but I'm curious as to why this car is still on the lot. Me and a buddy are gonna go to the lot tomorrow to see if we can jerk there chain a little bit. But here are the really questions i need opinions to:

Its a 2002 Firebird, fully loaded, auto, sport appearance package. asking price $26,000

1. Now I know the car isn't even close to being worth that much, so what do you guys think i could talk them down to, or what kind of deal do you think I could get. (i know there are a few members that work at car dealerships, so i need the inside info  )

2. Even though i'm not partial to V6 muscle cars(oxymoron), do any of you feel this is a good opportunity to get into a new car.

All in all, I don't even want a Firebird unless its a Trans Am, but I'm just looking at the idea that i can get into a brand new Pontiac. Times are tough and i'm sure they are itching to release that car. Hit me back please.

Please don't tell me that is a v6 Firebird for that much money?? Go away from that immediately. You couls get them down to low 20's really, and that's where it should be. Don't get one tho, the meat and potatos of the car is only in the v8 form, everyone makes fun of the v6, it just isn't right.

If it is a v8, that is a damn good price, but watch out for insurance.

Damn, watch out for insurance either way, RWD sports cars are a bitch either way, but especially the LS1.

Seriously dude, that isn't the v6 right??

I'm about 99.99% sure that I won't be buying this car, but it was one of those late night crazy ideas that sprung into mind. Plus, i can't exactly afford a new '03 GA GT right now, unless i was able to talk one down to about $20K w/o interest.

But yeah, they are asking $26K for a Firebird. Until it drops below $20k, its just gonna sit there unless a fool buys it

Ok, youll still be paying for a V8 when it comes to insurance... a V6 firebird is like sitting infront of a fan to see what its like to skydive...

the only good V6 firebird was the 20th anniversery that came with the version of the Grand National Turbo V6

Yeah, I'm starting to sense that these cars aren't good at all unless you go with the V8.

Does anyone know what GM's incentives are right now. I want a new car extremely bad!!!!

average retail per NADA right now is $21,325. That should be the STARTING point of negotiations.

V6 Firebird's/Camaro's & V6 Mustangs...why do they even bother???

If you want to upgrade and keep the functionality of the GAGT, get a GTP.

umm, not to bash, but that firebird is faster than any GAGT stock.... now, if it were me, i'd look at like a 98-99 LS1 cause u can get them pretty cheap...resale value sucks majorlly on f-bods.

Not the V6 Firebird that he is talking about, that 3800 loses alot of HP having to go to the rear wheels and I am talking about the 5-speed.

Actually in some tests the V-6 bird was able to pull a V-8 Mustang GT. My 2 friends stock Birds pulled a 14.8 and a 14.42. Not to bad up in the GA Mountains (GA=Georgia). You can do a handful of upgrades that will put that car at 250RWHP for about a grand. The cars were underrated at 200HP. I agree that my 01' BlackBird TA was faster than hell stock 12.4 at 123MPH. But a mid 14 is not bad.

For that pice I am going to bet it is a Formula with the V-8 in it. A basic bird is 18,900. 25,000+ is Trans Am range 31,000+ is WS-6 range. So someone would be crazy to want that much for a V-6. The TA comes fully loaded Standard. Leather, all pwr even antena, T-tops etc. So It would have to be an 8 or that is the only reason it is on the lot.

http://www.gmmginc.net/html/chamberedexhaust.html here is my old ride I am in Video 2 and 3. 2 They had me test the special edition Camaro and 3 was me taking delivery of my Black Bird Trans Am. Talk about expensive. The car was 43,000 I got 14,500 on my 1977 Trans Am trade in. and my ins was $785.00 a month. Mind you taht is ins not the car payment. I worked my ass of to pay for that car. My parents paid half of every other months ins payment so I could afford it. Kohl's and an Ebay business is what I have to thank for that. Now I have an 85 TA 02 GA and a bike.

And let me guess, you either couldn't afford the TA anymore because Mom and Dad weren't helping out, or you totalled it? By the sound of the 1 million threads you have in the racing section of black99gt's forum I'll guess the second....

Actually my father was driving it and totaled it. It was not his fault either. I can't help that I have owned fast cars. What is the point if you never, ever drive it fast. Yes I post. If most of you think about it you race cars to a certain extent. Not to many of you guys like to be passed. . Yes the car is gone though. Ins paid it off so that one is scratched off of the 50 made list. It is a shame but the car was not totaled out of carelessness. I had it for a year and put around 2,500 miles on it. It was my baby and stayed covered. Tires still had 85% tread etc. 380+HP at the wheels is not to easy to handle. I tkae care of my cars like you would not believe. that is why a dealership gave me 14,500 on a 1977 car 24 years old at the time. Because I make a car perfect. Run perfect, look perfect etc.

BTW in the race section on www.ohiorides.com out of the 53 topics I have 8. 3 of which are not really even race stories. One is me and Doug from a car meet, one talks about teh old TA, and one was an S-10 doing a burnout. So take it as you may but I only take pride in my cars and anyone who knows me will tell you I baby them to death. I wax once a month wash the car even if it will rain tomorrow. http://www.ohiorides.com/images/ohiomeet/IM001871.JPG and this is the result.

Talk about a rip off!!!!! Just got back from the dealer. The salesman was stressing how bad they needed to part with that car. When I asked what could they do, he tells me "we can go as low as $23K, which is a steal because these cars are gonna be hot this summer, since they don't make them anymore."

I came so close to laughing in his face. But the car is definately a V6. I popped the hood, and sure enough it was the 3800 under there. Oh well, they had a 2002 Trans Am Convert. in the showroom and they wanted $38K for that one. They jack up the prices because the dealership is in a wealthy town and they know somebody will pay that much for it
