Ok, I read somewhere on the forum about someone giving tips for drag racing. Whoever that was said to put it in 3rd gear and just step on the gas and go. What is the difference with leaving it in 3rd of D? What about shifting up to 3rd gear? And about the start, power brake it, just gas a little with brake on then just jam on the gas as you lift up off the brake? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Trying to manually shift it is not as good since your car is pretty much optimized to shift when it hits it's peak HP/TQ I believe. Leaving it in 3 instead of D will not benefit you at all since you do not shift into D (you will stay in 3rd... aren't going fast enough to shift into D)when Drag Racing.....

leave it in D or 3, doesn't make much difference. More important is to turn the traction control off and use the proper brake torque technique. You should hold the car at the line with the brakes and bring the rpm up to about 2000 before the tree starts to count down. This is because the stock torque converter locks up at 2500rpm, so you'll get a faster launch. Also, don't stage too deeply. There are 2 staging lights, and a 3rd light in front of them that starts the timer and determines reaction time and red lighting. Because the lights are several inches off the ground, and because off the curve of your tires, there is several inches of travel in these lights. You actually want to be as far back as possible with both staging lights on. Then if you time the tree properly, you can hit the gas a fraction of a second earlier with out red lighting. This gives you the jump on your opponent because you have more time to get moving and more speed when you start the timer. A good start can defeat a lot of opponents and take a tenth of a second of your quarter time.
