i have a 3.4 with almost seventy three thousand miles. i would like an sc but i am a little bit worried about putting one on my engine with so many miles so i was thinking about buying either a new or junkyard engine with low miles and an sc or buying a 3.8 sc egine and tranny out of a wrecked gp. any ideas on cost or just ideas in general on which would be the better way to go. thanks

As cool as it would be to have a 3.8L SC'ed Grand Am, I'd have to recommend the junkyard engine. There's so much fabrication involved with an EFI engine swap it would make your head spin. Example: Oil pan fabrication, motor mount fabrication, building a wiring harness to support the 3.8L engine with Grand Am body controls....etc. It would be a constant hassle even once you were done. Honestly, your engine should be fine to Supercharge. I think jakestuff put his on with some pretty high mileage and has had no problems whatsoever. Just my opinion. Whatever you decide, have fun!

Yep,

- Went in at 57,000 miles, I now have 66,000 miles. I have had it on since MAY of this year. I really put miles on this car and I am impressed with how it is holding up. No breakage at all.

I have had very little if any tranny issues since putting the blower on, I have a tranny cooler. I have had the tranny slip maybe once, and that had more to do with the car tuning in to the SC than anything else. My engine seems fine, oil burn is the same, and I have started using Mobil Synthetic Blend. I did a full service 'oil flush' in advance to this transition to synthetic.

I would think about the engine swap, it depends on your budget and how long you want to have the car. If you are going to have it for a 4-5 years I guess I would do the swap of a fresher 3400.
Go with the same engine, the swap is more money than its worth IMHO.

Hey Pat... just a little heads up. Do NOT use any form of
Synthetic Blend!!! They are all bad and will do nothing good
for any motor. Either use a full synthetic, or regular oil....

My old man works with an ex-upper-up or Mobil, and we gave him
a call to hear what he had to say on all these new types of oil.
And he said just that, anything buy the blends....
