Does anyone know why the GAGT transmission is sealed?
It says there is no need to check the transmission fluid but some of us are anal and like to know whats going on with our cars.
How are we supposed to know if there is a problem?...and dont say check engine cause even i know thats useless;)

I assume it's because you have the emissions crap on your car... Mine is not sealed; however, my cousins is and theirs has the emissions crap on it. That way you can't tamper with it, only the dealer can.

Our POS Jetta has the same deal going on with the transmission. There is no dipstick and the tranny fluid can only be checked if you buy special hardware and software to talk to the computer. From there you monitor the transmission temperature and then remove a bolt. Once the proper temperature is reached the trans fluid is supposed to stream out. Great way to check the fluid level.

I looked in the GA service manual for the fluid checking procedure and guess what? The procedure is the exact same. :rage: Dammit!!!!

Start the car and let the engine warm up. The transmission fluid must be at least 40 degrees Celsius or 104 degrees Farhenheit. Lift the vehicle (engine running, transmission in Park) and remove the transmission fill plug. The level should be even with the threads on the fill plug.

I bet my Grand Prix is the same way... My 2000 had a dipstick. My 2003 does not.

i was told that the transmission was sealed because there is really no way to lose fluid and really no reason to check the fluid. the only way you would lose fluid would be in the case of a leak. just have your car serviced as mentioned in the manual and you should be fine.
