I am thinking it is time to flush the coolant, but can't really find any thread on how to do it. If you would help me out that would be great......Also, the green stuff. I know there has been a lot of discussion on this topic, but what is the verdict? I was thinking i would run the green stuff with some Water Wetter. Any help on these two topics would be appreciated!!

All I know about this is that you have to make sure you COMPLETELY flush the system (which from what I understand is not an easy task, but can be done) you must ensure that ALL off the Dexcool is removed. The two are not compatible and do not play well together. I am not sure about the green stuff/water wet combo, but let us know if you are successful.

You can buy a Prestone Flush Kit at Wal-Mart. The only problem is finding a place to splice it into our cars! Your best bet is to take it to the dealer and see if they will do it and re-fill with green.

Mixing Dex-Cool and green won't do anything except destroy the "long life" of the coolant. I.e. after mixing you need to change it every 25K vs. 100K.

Water Wetter is GREAT stuff!!! I used to run it in my 5.0L and it dropped my temp gaueg 10-13 degrees!

The 2 ARE compatible. Its just that mixing them will decrease the projected 150k mile lifespan of the Dexcool.

How do I know? "Green stuff" is ethylene glycol. "Orange stuff" is ethelene glycol based with extra additives.

Personally, I'd just flush the system and run the Dexcool. I had a problem with the stupid drain leaking afterwards though. :rage:

It is added to the coolant to reduce the surface tension and allow it to adhere to the block better thus pulling heat away from the engine. It is made by Red Line ... http://www.redlineoil.com

so how much of this stuff should be added during a coolant flush.

It has nothing to do with a flush! It is added to the coolant while it is in the car. One bottle treats the entire cooling system.

I did it to a friends after seeing what dex cool did to his engine...The easiest way to flush it is drain the block...then drain the radiator......leave the plugs out and run a garden hose full blast. Then after a few minutes put the plugs back in and fill the system up with water. Then run the engine for about 5-10 minutes (long enough so the thermostat opens up). Then drain it again. Then fill with water again and use prestone flush. Then run the car for 10 minutes. Then drain and then fill with water and run again. and drain. It takes some time but it work really nice.

Exactly how did you drain the block. All the hoses are kind of high on the engine. Not very condusive to draining.

There is a plug on each side of the engine block. The front one is on the bottom right hand of the oil filter.

I dont suppose you or anyone else has a picture of these engine plugs? It would make it alot easier to find the plug if there was a picture to reference.
