View Full Version : Warranty Issues with newly installed parts
WEll, I jsut went to my dealer today, and one of their service managers, told me that anything you do to your car can potentially void your warranty, if they determine that it was the cause. He basically said go ahead as long as I dont beat the heck outa my car. So my Questions are...
One: What are the most common problems with our fine GAGTs? If any, how expensive are they to fix (if the dealer voids my warranty)
Two: Does anyone feel it is worth it to risk the void of my warranty to make my car as wroth as the others on here (or atleast I hope ;) )
Three: Has anyone else heard DIFFERENT from thier car dealer or a GM employee?
Thank you for your time, you guys have been alot of help on here, and sorry for all my newbie-ish questions.

The key to your question is: " anything you do to your car can potentially void your warranty, if they determine that it was the cause."
That basically sums it up.....if you put different size wheels on and have front end problems.....they'll say that was the cause,
put on a jet module or ASE upgrade and have problems, same thing.....
I do things that can be easily reversed if I have to go in for service...except for my CAI, they've seen it and have no problem with it at all (dealer put one on his daughter's GAGT). I made a wiring harness for my Jet that plugs in and out so they don't even see it (unless they have to look at the MAP....then I'm screwed!)
Anything can be potentially expensive!!! The risk depends on you and whether you can afford a major repair if they say something you did caused the problem. I'm quite a bit older than you....dealers don't view me the same way they do a kid (although you young guys know more about these newer cars than I'd ever hope to!)
The dealer here is one of my best friends so I'm pretty well covered.....plus he knows how "anal" I am about everything I do. My cars are usually better when I sell them than when I got them.
Just a note....most of the guys here are great  ....if you can't find your answer in a search, just ask, someone will always help you out.

Just read your warranty booklet that came with the car. There is a section on alterations and the warranty. Something along the lines of ..'warranty dosen't cover any repairs caused by modifications or alterations'. Another section talks about racing or competition. As posted above, the only parts that would not be covered are those the mods effect. Or check http://www.sema.org and look throught the consumer section for the Magnuson Moss section which says the same thing.
Except... if my dealership decides to void my warranty... and I take it to GM... theyll just put mt on the back burner... and If i have a problem... that will suck... and theyll jsut stretch out the legal stuff as long as they can... they really DONT care... maybe I should have gone with the used Civic after all

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They have to prove that the modded parted directly caused the problem. must of the common mods really aren't gonna cuz things to break.
