Does anyone know what was with the cadillac cateras?? I guess they had some serious problems, and now you can get one pretty darn cheap. I mean they dont look too bad, and its a caddy.

darn cheap??? When I was purcahsing my Grand am, the dealer had a used Catera with low miles on it selling for a little over $13,000. And it was a 2000 model in excellent condition. I can't remember exactly what problems the cateras experiecned but I heard their were numerous.

I have a lady friend that has one. It's in the shop EVERY week for something. Generally it is the same one over and over. It might have the Cadillac name, but you don't want one!

Anyone know where I can get a car less reliable than almost any other GM car that weighs nearly 4000lbs, that's the size of a Sunfire but with a 200HP 3.0 V6 RWD that cost about 30K new but costs about 13000 with a few miles on it that's slower than any W body with a 3800 series II or N body with the 3400?

OK then.

Well I forgot the original question, I just hate cateras. I like that they improved them a lot with the CTS tho. What really ****ed me off is how cheap the Catera looks and the pricetag, doesn't match Cadillac at all, should have sold for more like $25,000 or less and under a different brand, maybe buick or olds.

Wasn't the Catera supposedly engineered or at least the suspension tuned in Germany? The guy who owns our local gym has one. I see it every time I go to the gym, and I shake my head and wonder why anyone would have bought that car.

I mean at least Lexus has a nicer looking and very reliable version of the Toyota Corolla, so people would fork over big bucks for an expensive small car. But the Catera?

Yeah, I saw a guy on the road who just bought a Catera. Had the temp tags on it. I was like you don't know what your in for.

The Catera was basically just a rebadged Opel/Vauxhall Omega, meaning it was essentially a German car inside and out.

I always liked their looks, actually. They just needed more power. Too bad Cadillac didn't put the LS1 in it the way HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) did with their Omega clone, the GTS R 300. 402HP, 0-60 in 5.3, 13.7@105 in the quarter according to Car and Driver's Sept 2001 issue.
