View Full Version : Ghetto functional SC/T hood

So I was inspired by another thread, grabbed some extra ABS I had laying around, and molded a path for air coming in the SC/T hood to blow on my cone. It's ghetto as hell, but I can tell a difference. I chopped my plexiglass heat shield a bit so it would match up better. The silver stuff is reflective heat tape. I wasnt sure how well ABS would hold up to engine bay temps.
I molded it by holding the plastic over the stove (an electric stove :)) and using gloves, bend it to how i want it. when it looks right, run it under some cool water. It instantly hardens in the shape its in.
What you cant see in the pics are the screw holes I made in the ABS so that I can just put a screw through it, through the grill mesh, and into the stock screw holes in the hood.
This is the plastic just after i molded it.

Just curious as to how much water will be dumped on the cone in the rain, I saw the lexan but it doesn't look like it surrounds the cone. I didn't get a real good visual that's why I'm asking.

I will be working around that problem. Ive got all the ideas in my head, but im waiting for some extra money before i start my "top secret project" hehe
How do you guys find the Lexan holds up to the underhood temps? I had a prototype made up but it all distorted to ****e within a day....then again I think my car runs hotter than it should.

My young jedi... you have used PLEXIGLASS  And NOT Lexan:thumbs:
My Lexan intake box is about 2-3 inches from the header of the engine, which is VERY VERY hot. And has YET to show ANY sign at all of heat warping or melting.
You should have put some header wrap (heat resistant crap) around the area where youve put your ""Lexan"".
No, it was Lexan. That's the only stuff we use here, I work with it day in-day out. Mind you, it was only .080 and was pretty much on top of the exhaust manifold.
What thickness are you using?

SEE...SEE! Even though they are small mods, he did have to mod something to get out of the 16's.:D Nobody better tell me ever again that they think bone stock GA's can run low 15's!:p
BTW: Nice work Brendan! You're always thinking of creative little ways to squeeze more power out.:D And it worked!
