All right my brother jsut bought a sunfire that has a rockford fosgate punch 40x hooked up to the back speakers. It sounds all righ except u cant turn the bass up because its hooked up to the back speakers.

He wants to disconnect the amp from the back speakers and put them back through the HU and run 2 10's off of the amp. Now I was thinking since this amp is only hooked up to the back speakers it doesn't put out much power, right? I was thinking he should put a more powerful amp in and then run some subs.

What sub/s can be run off of this amp?
Sorry about the long post but I had alot to say.

I don't think that amp will run more than 1 crappy 10" I would use that amp to run to your highs up front!!! Then get 2 nice 10's with a big enough amp for the subs :D Hope that helps...

What kinda 10's? The 40x was a tough little critter, and is cabable of almost 300 watts. Driving a single good 10 or 12, or a couple high-efficeincy ones like Thunder 4000's, it'd do OK.

The Punch 40 DSM, X, and iX were all rated at 20 x 2 or 80 bridged, both into 4 ohms at 12 volts. That was back when RF SERIOUSLY underrated their amps for competition. Typical measurements usually showed somewhere in the neighborhood of 127 watts RMS mono into 4 ohms at 12 volts, as high as 230 peak at 14 volts. They are stable into 2 ohms, and I've seen people run them much lower than that with outboard cooling.

A very clean amp for the highs, a sturdy little amp for a sub or two. Not a powerhouse, but not a wimp, either.
