What is the difference between these two? I had to take my 02 GAGT in to get the passenger side window looked at today. When I would roll the window down, and it would reach the bottom, you would heara bang sound, and then when it rolled up, you would hear like a "clunking" sound as it rolled up. Well, the tech stated on the sheet that the "regulator was loose" and he replaced it. However, the motor was not replaced too. Are these two separate things? Is it common for the windows to die within 15,000 miles? The car is brand new, and it's not like I roll the windows up and down constantly every day. I'm just curious if everyone has a lot of problems like this. I'm worried about this when I run out of warranty. What causes a regulator to loosen/ go bad? if someone could let me know, I'd appreciate it!

Don't know if it is or not, but I had mine replaced with the exact same thigns happening with my 03 GAGT, and my ga only has 3,000 miles on it and had the whole unit replaced, motor and regulator, and brand new it is, it's working fine now. But actually it was my driver side window. Weird....

Oh let me tell you about the stupid window regulator...My extended 'full coverage' waranty didn't cover mine when it broke cost me $630 :( and a nice cold ride home from the toll booth on the Ohio turnpike in the middle of January with no drivers window one night at 12 in the morning....to say the least I was not very happy!!!!

My Passenger side regulator was replaced when the window totally stopped working.

The drivers side has the knocking, clunking sound on the way up. I have not gotten around to taking it in for that yet.

The drivers side wouldnt go up all the way in the back and i had water comin in. So they replaced the regulator, and it works fine now.

I have that clunking knocking sound on my 2002 GA on the driver's side window when I roll it up, and I still have some time left on the original warranty. Does anyone know if it's covered? I'm definitely going to try and research this though...

Not to mention the little scratches on the windows? Do they cover that?! If so, I could get new windows... yay!

Also, I didn't notice the problem with the tire rubbing/grinding noise much, except for once when I was making a turn at about 5 MPH lol... and it sounded like my tire was rubbing on something. I read the appropriate thread and saw what was probably the best way to handle it with the dealer, but I'd still appreciate any good advice on this issue as well.

Thanks!

Ahh... well I'm a n00b at this - and to be honest I spend so much time moderating programming forums or whatnot that this is all new to me.

But, there is some good information here... and I LOVE my car... it's definitely a keeper, I think. :)

Did you see my shiny pic? LOL

Heh... well that's the ONLY thing I did to that pic... and as you can see from the UNTOUCHED plates on the van behind it, it actually had that "glow" from the angle of the sun on the plates. I thought that was a bit freaky and cool, but I'll take it. :)

Just an FYI. The window motor problems dates back to at least pre 1997. I've had to replace both sides on the wife's 97, but here's something to think about. My brother-in-law has been a Vette fan for years and had some extra parts laying around. He brought over one of his older but better made motors (pre 1990) and it's the same. The regulator was different and I had to drill out the old rivets and put in 1/2" long bolt w/nut. Works fine. So, instead of paying for a new motor that might not be no better than the one you're taking out, you might want to go to the local junkyard and find a golden "oldie".

The bottom window tracks are prone to collecting alot of dirt due to the grease. The track turns into a bumpy road causing the motor/regulator to work harder to lift the window.
