Well it's done. I wasn't really looking but I found a deal too good to pass up. I just sold my beloved 99 GA w/56k miles on it for $9,500 to a co-worker/friend. I bought a 2003 Mercedes C320 Sports Coupe. 215hp V6. Black (of course) w/ oyster leather, panorama sunroof, 5 spd. auto w/ some kind of touch shift thingy, rain-sensing wipers, etc. Stickers at my local dealer for $32,400 plus almost $5k in taxes. Bought it from a Houston dealer for $26,999, making taxes significantly less and avoiding 7.75% in taxes altogether. The reasons are too many to list, but bottom line is I wasn't going to get anywhere near $10k for my GA in another year or so and with that kind of a discount on a Benz, I had to go for it. The lines of the Mercedes are similar to the lines of the GA which is why I liked it. I will post pics of the 2 cars together before the GA is gone for comparison.

Only a fool would keep the GA over a 320 coupe

Well, I don't know...Pontiac or Mercedes...hmmmm??? Good deal. Your right though, you probably wouldn't get what you got for your GA now if you waited another year.

Thanks for the support, guys. I know - $9,500 is a good $1k over blue book private party value for a GA in good condition. That's just one of the many reasons I chose to do this. It's not like I hated my GA - I loved it and still do. I'm happy I'll still get to see it at work occasionally. The guy who bought it is 62 and has been bugging me for 2 years to sell him the car - lol. The Mercedes is great and does remind me of the GA in some ways. Too bad so much snob appeal goes along with Mercedes though - everyone at work is looking at me funny.

The people who say they would keep the GA must be on Pontiac's salary plan!!

Forgot to mention insurance is 30% cheaper on the Mercedes too :p Apparently I was getting taken to the cleaners on a 4 yr. old GA because of the poor safety ratings. The Mercedes has 8 (yes 8) airbags - in a coupe! As for hp, my LT1 Formula will provide me with all the extra fun I need :D ( ok well maybe not all the fun I need) hehehehe

The insurance companies can KISS MY A$$ with their poor ratings for the GA. My brother slammed some idot that ran a red light going about 30 mph. Not only did he not need to go to the hospital and but he drove the damn car home! Not safe my damn a$$! He spun the other guy out. The damn frame even got bent and the worst thing he got was a little soreness in the neck.

Don't the crash testers do 60mph collisions?

Yeah I have to agree that those ratings are BS. I think we've all seen pics of GA's cut in half, totaled, etc. where the people walked away from the accident. Today is the last day I drove my GA. The new owner is taking her from work. I couldn't get pics this weekend because of the wrath of God storms we had. I will still try to get some. The Mercedes is beautiful, powerful, and relatively luxurious, but it doesn't give me half as many thrills as the GA did when it was new. I will always have Pontiac and the 1999 GAGT to thank for getting me interested in cars! :)

Yes, but most of those were not head-on colisions where the front of the car is smashed up pretty bad. That's how they crash test the cars and the results for the Mailbu/Grandam/Alero came back poor.

I know - Sorry Steve! But that was a major selling point for the car. I never would have gotten above blue book without it. Been driving the Benz for about a week now. Wow is all I have to say. The power and grace is amazing, especially the handling. I'm actually trying to give it the proper break in period so I haven't had too much fun with it (I hit 110mph - felt like 70mph :p). I know I'll be playing with the gears more after 1k miles. Another fun thing about it that reminds me of the GA is that people think you have a slow car. People always thought the GA was all show and no go and now most people mistake my V6 for the much less powerful SC'd 4 cylinder. Hehehehe. Dumkopfs.

Yeah I forgot to mention that to you. He thought the hood "made" the car. I could always find his fingerprints on it at the end of the day. You touch it, you buy it :D
