The front left speaker in my 98 Se and my moms 2000 GT both pop. Not the tweeter, the actual speaker, and only that one. Both have been tested NUMEROUS times and they have ALWAYS been fine. It only does it at higher volumes, and with base...anyone else have this problem? Is it wiring or just how they are installed?...

on mine when the volume is way up there, they pop.
i'm pretty sure it's due to over-excursion on the cone itself. you are sending the voice coil past the magnetic gap that the speaker itself can handle is what i say is goign on

My 94 does the same thing! I've been wondering for ever why! I think its a bad wiring harness though. I've switched the speaker twice now, still same problem. I'd try getting a new wire harness. Other then that, your front speakers aren't made to handle bass. Put the fade 3 notches to the back if you have a aftermarket headunit, or if the stock, fade it back till you hear less up front. And turn the bass down to 60-70% I promise you'll like it better. Want bass? get a sub.

exactly
little 4x6 speakers do not play bass well at all, thats what the popping is, turn the bass down and the fade to the rear, on your EQ (if u have one) do NOT turn it up past the mid point, it'll add distortion and sound like crap, AmIGrand mentioned his eq settings i'll see if i can find em

Correct on all points. If your speakers are popping, you're asking them to do things which they are not physically capable. If you want it that loud and with bass, get a small amp & sub. Let it do the hard work, turn the bass WAY down on the rest of the system so they have an easier life & they'll sound great!!

Very true words you speak. BUt here's what confuses me, and probably a lot others...its only the LF speaker. I could be listening to the same song, same level of bass, the LF would pop, RF would be just fine, very responsive at that! Its confusing. I seriously thought it was a bad wiring harness, cause i changed speakers and it did it regardless but only to the LF
EDIT: Forgot to put this in. My Fader is at 6 with the FIE. Thats the lowest it will go without losing volume of mids and highs to the front.
Bass: +/- 0
Mid: +2
High: +4

Omg, I'm such a moron. It's the right front speaker in both cars, and only that one does it. I think if you reverse it, it doesn't amtter tho. They may of had problems with wiring in the past years, i don't know. Anyways, I have Boston acoustics up front, 80 watts each, top of the line without an amp. They should handle it fine. I had a pair of polk's up there before, but that RIGHT front one popped even worse! I've got 130W clarions in the back, that pump like a bia, and a JL 10w3d4 sub in the back with a jbl 300.1 amp. My stereo system is nice, very nice. I just don't see why that ONE speaker pops in both of our cars. I'm sure they can handle it, since the LEFT speaker isn't popping...I'm just not sure. Anyways, I'm going to get an amp for my 4 speakers soon, and hopefully the built in crossover will eliminate the problem....

LOL, regardless of your situation, my LF still pops. But you know, i've seen numerous threads of people complaining and having it tested a hundred times at Dealers and coming up with no answers. Its a mystery!
