View Full Version : Time for a new car

I am probably going to get a new car in the next few months. My 2000 GA SE bores me, as most cars do after a few years. I liked the car, and for the money I had at the time (bought used) it was a good car, but I think I want something new. I thought i'd post here and get some input (and I'm bored at work):
Some of the cars I'm considering, in no particular order:
Mazda 6
Passat
WRX
Accord v6
Saab 9-3
2004 Grand Prix
I am open to others, those are just some I have been looking at.
The Passat is fairly high on the list because a friend of mine has one and it looks like it is well made. The interior is really nice, and it drives nice-- all around a pretty nice car. The WRX is probably not going to happen because it's kinda small.

Problem with the GTP is the one I would want is a little more expensive, and you can't get one with a manual transmission. I know they have paddle shifting, but it just isn't the same thing.

Nissan Altima
Nissan Maxima
Lexus IS 300
How about those?

Maxima and Lexus might be a bit expensive, but the Altima I would look at. The interior I've heard is kinda cheap, but I haven't seen one in person yet (except from the outside).

How about a mustang? Can be bought for cheap and has a multitude of performance parts avaliable.

I would also have to go with the Mazda 6, with the v6 of course, those look so sweet, i'm thinking about getting one.

Has anyone driven the Saab 9-3? I'm curious as to what peopel think about it. I don't really like the look of the Mustang that much, and some of the other cars mentioned here are a little expensive.
I'm bored, so if you want to indulge me with the details as to why some of you picked certain cars I'd be glad to read it.

Vibe GT. It comes in a 6 speed and is a lot of fun to drive....with a Toyota engine, mods are seemingly endless. An exhaust and a CAI and you're pushing 200hp.
Plus they're not everywhere...so you stick out a bit.
I'm a little biased, but hey...I love my car.

I'd pick the Mazda 6 outta that lineup. Sweet styling, sporty heritage & 4 doors. It def is a nice looking car..

What do you think of the Dodge Intrepid SXT? It has a 244 HP engine and that manual automatic shifter. It is one big car. But it has almost as much power as the GP GTP for less money, when you take into account the Dodge incentives.
I'm looking to replace my 99 GAGT, and the GP GT2 and the Intrepid are on my short list. I love the GP's heads up display and driver info center. The Dodge doesn't have either.

I say get a new GTP Comp G ! The dealer that sold me my car has that new fusion Orange. That thing looks nice and refreshing.

The Mazda 6 is sweet (a coupe version would be to die for); I've seen some nice ones around here. I just wish they would've matched HP numbers w/ the Altima and Accord though. Not that 220 is a bad number by any means, but it's still average by today's standards in that market. I'm just praying Pontiac wakes up and builds the G6 w/out sacrificing much power from the concept. Knowing GM though, it's probably wishful thinking; they always seem to tease you and then disappoint by not building anything great. :rage:

BTW, my good old G/A will be paid off in 5 more months. Then I can start saving for one of these nice, new machines. Next fall, I should be able to afford one of those!

Mazda 6...Mmmm, nice :) That bad boy can probably take a GA from the showroom. And there are definitely some toys in development for it right now. Only $24k for the top model too.

Well if Mazda comes out with a Mazdaspeed version of the 6, then i'd be all for it. But still, the 6 is an amazing looking car. I love the look.

u may have to wait a little bit, but it will be worth it. It was posted under autonews and rumors. The title is 2005 Convertible GA or something like that.

The Nissan Spec V's are nice. They are pretty cheap even fully loaded with the 6 speed manual.

Spec V finished last against the Mazda Protege Speed, Dodge SRT4, and Ford Focus SVT in the Car and Driver magazine small sports-sedan test. Motortrend didn't even test it in their small-sports sedan test. I don't just go off magazines, but they had a compelling argument.
