well i dont think it does, but Consumer Reports does. was bored at friend's house and read a Consumer Reports magazine that was over there on cars. 99 grand ams (and pretty much all grand am's up to 2002) suck!! worst brakes( i knew that), engine got a really bad score, and safety sucks!! also got really bad reliability, one of the top worst recommended cars used cars. dont get me wrong, i love my car, but if i had to do it again, and saw the magazine first, i would have gotten a buick regal GS. love how they look, not as sporty as the GTP so dont look fast, but other guy wont suspect it, they scored everything perfect on the car too. im just glad i did get the 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty when i got my car. its already paid for itself and i havent had my car but a year. im gonna need it it looks like...but screw it, i love my car!!!

Consumer reports is unhumanly biased!

I feel sorry for anyone who goes by that POS.

Think about this, 200,000+ GA's are sold each year, they test what? 10-100? Yeah, so what?

What if they came to this site and did their study? 80% of everyone here abuse their cars, and of course they're not going to last as long as if you were driving like your average Joe....

Sorry for the rant.

isnt the Grand Am GMs best selling vehicle?

Pontiacs best selling vehicle, yes.

Oh, also, these cars they rate. Do the people change the oil/fuel/air filters regularly? Do they change the oil at regular intervals? PCV valves? Transmission fluid, brakes? Lots of varying factors can cause many different problems.

When is everyone going to learn that the magazines are totally biased against American cars, especial cars like the GA that sell SO MANY. Thye will come up with anything they can to rip on the GA and you know the stupid a$$ so called jourlist has run out of anything even close to a thought we has to resort to ripping on the back up lights of the GA. How pathic!

Don't ever rely on Consumer Reports for automotive info. They sold out years ago to the imports who buy large ads in their publications. I just laughed when their review of the 99 GA came out. Go to www.Edmunds.com for better, more objective reviews and tests.

The Grand AM is one of the top ten sold cars on the road. It's the 2nd most sold GM car. Most likely more SE's than GT's. Don,t feel bad because alot of people buy our cars.

Definitely more SEs than GTs sold....probably due to the major rental car agencies using grand Ams.

dont forget they only really test the base model... They rated the grandam underpowered but they only looked at the 2.4/2.3

Unsafe?! Since when? My supervisor at work has a sister-in-law who, in her old Alero, got t-boned on her passenger side by a guy doing 70. Her passenger walked away with bruises!

If I'd had someone over the the passenger side of my Integra when it got hit by someone doing 40, they'd have been sent to the hospital with massive head injuries for sure!

It's head-on crash tests where the N-bodys loose serious points. They look at all aspects of the car after the crash. The Malibu, Grand am, and Alero didn't fair to well.

Well I hit a brick wall at atleast 30-35 mph's head on, and Althought there was bumper damage and hood damage... my frame nor engine was NOT touched... So Consumer Reports put that in your pipe and smoke it...

Consumer Reports does NOT have ANY ads. The reliability data is gathered from hundreds of subscribers. The actual road test is done with a car they buy at the dealer and is not supplied by the manufactures. Its much less biased than C&D or R&T who get their cars donated and then they run ads for it on the very next page. BTW they only tested the 4cly not the GAGT V6.

99 and up grand ams are known to me from my car, and accounts of everyone I have talked to, to be extremely reliable and durable. Aside from the intake gasket, my car has had nothing. And I have talked to people that have over 70,000 miles on their GA's and they beat the hell out of them the whole time, and still have no problems or noticible loss of power. I would say the majority of us (GA owners) have been more than satisfied with our cars.

Dude you do realize most grand ams are bought to be used in rental car fleets right? Does anybody realize this? Anybody? That's why it sells so well. That's also why there are so many 4-doors out there.

And them saying the 2.4 is underpowered? hehehe. I'd like them to test drive my lil pepper.

Every dealer I've visited recently that appraised my car was drooling over the idea of having it on the lot as a used car. They love Grand Ams because they sell so well. And no, they don't sell well only because they are rental cars....
