i've been thinking about it for a while and i'm sure it's possible. it would just be one of those small mods that gets people's attention.

I think there was someone a while back with a key pad starter (push in the right pin number, and it starts the car) -- I imagine it would be about the same as a push button starter.

There are kits available, check summit. You still need to use the key, however.

Could put the button right beside where the ignition is now?
Or down by the shifter.
In our stock cars, we have it on the right where the shifter is, in that area. Works good. Pretty lights and all..
(My car comes with 2 power points stock, :) )

I don;t think it would be too hard. Just find the starter wires from the ignition and re run them to a push button. Key only needs to be in the "on" position.
CRC Racing sells pushbutton starters (I think) If not, I can find out for you if you like. They make whole switch panels for that.

If you find the link, please put it in this thread rather than PM'ing it, I'm sure others would like to see it.
BTW, I personally would put the button where the existing ignition is and relocate the key assembly to just infront of, and to the left of the gear shift, there's plenty of room under that plastic molding...

Is there some way we could make it so you wouldn't need the key? It's a cool idea, but would be pretty shady if you still needed the key.

all cars equiped with a push-button starter that I know of still require keys

really? the only car I've ever been in with one was an MR-2, and it didn't require a key...so I know it can be done, somehow.

I imagine it can be easily eliminated. Just cut out the cylinder and rewire it.. Need a switch for the ignition and a push button. (And a switch for ACC) no big deal.. We have a 86 TA and a 93 TA (Race cars) all on switches. Well, the 93 is only a TA body on a tube frame, but you get the idea.

Well, you kind of want the key. Otherwise everyone can walk in and start the car.
Either way, there needs to be some sort of a switch, key or not, that puts the cars electrical system in the "on" position, otherwise the car would sit there and crank forever.

Ok, here is some of what I have found..
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=3776
(ignition switch, starter)
And this is what we use, REBCO...
http://www.rebcoperformance.com/catalog/catlist.asp?catid=10
That should do it!
I would go with rebco..
