I'm in the market for a newer vehicle. Getting rid of the 70 Camaro SS. I'm thinking about a GMC Syclone w/ new GM crate motor and rebuild trans, needs Turbo rebuilt still which sounds like an excuse to go aftermarket to me. :D
Question is, how do turbo and AWD vehicles handle daily driving duties with some traveling? I understand they'll be high maintenance, but how high?
sorry to hijack but ill take the SS :D

Syclones and Typhoons are awesome vehicles. I have a few friends with them. They are good as daily drivers and as track vehicles. Nothing better than running some 12's or quicker at the track and then piling your buddies in on the way home. The Syclone isn't that comfortable on trips though. I went to the SY/TY Nationals in KC a few years back and I jumped in a TY because I started to ache. If you have a solid powertrain in them they handle pretty much anything. The transfer cases usually wear out at about 100,000 miles and those are expensive to repair. The transmission are basically the corvette 700-R4 which is easy to build up. PTE has some pretty quality turbo kits for those trucks. As far as maintainence just change your plugs often...

a friend of mine has a 91? his has 326,000 miles while the all new drivetrain has 1000 miles on it. the first drivetrain lasted a long time except the original t-case which went at around 175,000 miles. but now that the whole drivetrain is new he added headers, a new and bigger turbo a cam and some other stuff. runs real good!

This one was modded to the hilt. Spun all 4 tires on takeoff. The guy that has it is a friends younger brother. Anyway to make the story shorter, he and a friend got schnockered one night and killed the motor. He knew some guy that traded the new crate engine and stock setup he had for the blown engine and upgraded turbo stuff that my friend's bro had. The new tranny wasn't in it long before he jacked the engine either. As for comfort, it has to be better than my Camaro on a trip.
