I had a remote starter installed on my car when I first got it 2 years ago. The 1st year everything was good, no complaints. About a year later sometimes it would start w/remote, sometimes it wouldn't but always with key. Over the past few months when I start it with the key, sometimes it goes to "security" and I can't start it for 10 minutes. It's spiratic I don't know when it will start or when it will embarrass me. Sometimes I think my car has it out for me. I didn't do anything wrong to it.
I called Best Buy and they told me $15 per 15 min increment to see what was wrong and to come up w/ a solution. I took it to the dealership to see if they would bypass the pass lock but they won't touch it unless the remote starter is completely removed and wired back to OEM standards.
I do have a PassKey2 module installed to "unlock the PassLock." Does anyone know what I should do?

depending on who origionally installed the unit and what model you got there should be a warrenty. I am sure the problem is that they used a 555L and grounded the unit to the car and not back to the pl refrence wire. This is a common problem and the dei directions were not fixed until a little over a year ago. I am faily certain this is your problem. If this is not it then i would double check the connection for failures and finally change the 555L unit. This is my pro opinion on this situation, if you have further questions feel free to ask.

I had one in my 2001 and had nothing but problems- i had it removed- GM refused to do ANY service on the vehicle while that was installed. I had SVS, SES, SECURITY, flashing CRUISE lights- it was not good- they would fix it, and it would screw up again- i got so sick of it, that I had them take it out! I would have them take it out and get yoru moeny back. later- shawn

With a high-quality, professional, and thorough installation, a remote start/alarm will give you years of trouble free use, and zero problems. Sounds like your installation was faulty. A HUGE majority of all problems with remote starts/alarms are due to improper installation, inadequate installation, or misinformation/taking shortcuts. When done right, it works like a champ.

Well it's been just over 2 years since I had it installed at Best Buy. The back of the remote says Sidewinder and it was originally $399.99 but my discount brought it down to $120. If I find the box and installation receipt I'll know what he used to bypass it. I've also seen this other part http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/shop/mall/access5.htm#bp791 does that sound like the right part to put in.

I had a similar problem with my alarm/auto start. I had it installed for a few months and then came back from a trip and it wouldn't start and the security light flashed at me. I called the dealership and they thought it could be a switch or relay gone bad and to get it in. When they found out I had a aftermarket remote start (RS) they weren't sure if it was the passlock system or the RS system and that I had to uninstall it and drive around and wait for it to happen again and then they would know it was the passlock system. Does this sound stupid to anyone else!? They charged me $80 to tell me it could be the RS or the passlock which I knew already going in! Needless to say after complaining to the service advisors and them insisting they did their part I won't be returning to the dealership EVER again. Next went to Circuit City and they found out pretty quick that one wire was attached to a wire that can not have any resistance in one part of it and should have have been attached in another section of the same wire. No problems since. I told CC they cost me $80 for their faulty install and they eventually gave me $80 store credit:) Check that wire!(Couldn't tell you which one it is though but a professional should know)
