Need some input here.

My Fiancee got a '2001 Grand Am SE with the 3.4L v6, bla bla bla.
Cute little car I must say, but she wants more 'pepp'..(She loves racing) Heck we went to the track when I was racing my car and she clicked off a 15.48@90.2 in her GA.

I already got her a Cold Air setup and a TPS enhancer switch (which I still think is utter BS, but I got everything at a very cheap price).

She wants her car to have a deeper, nicer sound, as the single-side dual tips sound pathetic..

I got my hands on a stock Grand am GT dual-side muffler which I could have welded in place of the single side one now.

I want to know if it is worth doing this, or just save up the $4-500 for a nice SLP exhaust?

Money IS a factor here by the way..

Thanks in advance

Personally i think Dynomax Exhaust is one of the best sounding if you would like the deep thrush sports car type sound and not that retarded ricer bwop sound. Ive heard a grand am with it and it sounds similar to a camaro or 80's type mustang 5 litre sound. http://www.dynomax.com/

Here is a page with some stock vehicles and then some with dynomax exhaust systems installed, They make a very significant change in sound. There is everything from Trans Am's to Chev trucks to Durangos and a 1.4 litre Civic. http://www.dynomax.com/sounds.stm

They are affordable and come with a lifetime warranty.

I have heard Borla and Dynomax but not SLP and the Dynomax sounds way better than the Borla if you ask me. I like the Sports car sound not the ricer rocket bwop.

or you could look into the Flowmaster 80's series muffler.. very very deep muscle car sound. one of the loudest exhaust out there. also, try searchign. you will find a LOT more info than people will actually take the time again to post..

In my opinion you can't go wrong with the SLP. The sound is great and it's all stainless! My CRX stainless exhaust was $550. The SLP is a lot less expensive..

The GT will give you very little difference in power, mostly just for looks.

I went with a Magnaflow - 80's camaro - style muffler, single in dual out, installed on the factory piping. Looks sweet sounds fantastic, no drone in the cabin, excellent outside sound, and better performance.

Look up the borla cat back exhaust, because that's what mine looks like installed.

Or you could get something like this...

http://forums.aleromod.com/files/magnaflow_installed.jpg

It's a single Magnaflow (part #14210) with a nice rumble, but it keeps the stock single-outlet look, and isn't quite as "in-your-face" as SLP.

As you can see, there are a dizzing amount of chioces for a performance exhaust setup, and they all provide similar gains, so the best bet is to try and find someone in your area with an aftermarket exhaust and listen for yourself.

SwtGrndAm - do a search for exhaust and you will find what you're looking for!

MrNuke - SLP all the way, the stock GT setup won't give any performance gains and the sound will not be noticable at all...

Welcome to the board. This is a great place to find information on pretty much anything you can think of about the GA. :)

Try not to post in all caps though... It's a little hard on the eyes. ;)

yah dont go for borla, they dont sound that good. They may have a bit more power than slp but they are more expensive and dont sound near as good as slp or dynomax. Im not sure if anyone has dynomax on there cars here? never hear anyone talk about it. I know tonnes of people that put it on v-8's. I had 3" from the manifold back with lifetime warranty on my camaro, they took about a month to break in before they got the nice throaty sound. Then i drove around alot in 1st or 2nd to scare people lol. Sounded like i had about 400 hp under the hood instead of 275 lol
