I just got a new Grand Am on Saturday (a 2.2 ecotec because I had to have a manual tranny) , and unfortunately am somewhat short on cash. What is the best place to start to increase horsepower? I realize that mods compound on each other, so the more the merrier, but I'm just looking to get started . I feel like the best place to start is an exhaust because it can't do anything if it can't breathe... anyone know where I could get an exhaust that would fit properly on my car?

No offense taken. Sorry about that. The amount of things I'm trying to juggle in my life is approximately equal to the number of times this question has been asked. I haven't had time to really figure out what's going on. Thanks.

Get a CAI and an exhaust.

If you want cheap, just go to the local muffler shop and get a larger pipe (2.25- 2.5" primary) and an aftermarket muffler of your choice put on.

the ecotecs from what I have been seeing on other boards, is that they take to laughing gas very nicely.

For exhaust goodness, it might make your car sound like a 4cyl, but well obviuosly you have one like I do. Make sure the muffler is straight through in design. You want the exhaust open enough where you reduce the restrictions, but not so open where you are losing velocity.

Intake side, rksport, rsm, and mantapart make intakes for the ecotec currently. RSM has a 62mm throttle body and intake package going on I belive which would save you a couple bucks.

Rksport has a crank pulley as well if you're interested.

Rksport also has a mean looking 4-2-1 header, but that's if you have the mulah for it.
