claying and all

tomorrow im gonna to wash the car, clay bar it, put scratch x on it, polish, and wax, all from meguiars. how long in between do i need to wait for all these steps. like how long between putting scratch x on and then putting the polish on, and putting polish on and then the wax. also, with scratch x, do i do one section at a time or do the entire car and then wipe off? same with the polish, one section or entire car? and is there some residue left on after i use the claybar that i need to wipe off, or does the claybar just leave it feeling smooth by it self

took me over 5 and a half hours from start to finish of cleaning and waxing.


as for how much of it you should do at a time, it depends on how fast you can do it. Claying is done sections at a time, but if you use a machine to help you apply and buff the wax, then you can do the entire car each step.

if you are using mothers kit, you just clay bar the whole car while using the detaling spray then then clean the whole car again with dawn soap...then wax

I dont use any soap after using the clay bar, soaps and such leave residue, which is the point of using the clay bar. If you clay bar correctly you should have no dirt at all on the paint, simply rinsing with water should be sufficient for preparing the car for wax after claying.

man i quit claying after 10 seconds; i put a ton of mist stuff on the section, then rubbed the clay bar on a small section, but it would stick to the car. it was a bitch to get the crap off that section. but oh well cuz i still used the scratch x, polish, and wax afterwards, and it looks awesome

You wash and wash the car until you think it's clean. Then you claybar with the lubricating spray they give you. Always make sure you use the bar with lubrication. You clay away at the car in sections, rinsing with water before the dirt that the clay bar pulled off dries real good again. You continue this until there is no residiue left on the car after claybarring. You shouldn't be using any other cleansers between claybarring and waxing.

If you claybar the entire car before rinsing the sections, you risk having the dirt you just brought up off the paint, reattaching itself so the rinsing doesn't remove it. I would not do the entire car at once on a hot day.

I did my cleaning last week and it took a long time as i mentioned. I'm doing it again tomorrow morning. Reclaying the car then rewaxing. It still has a mirror finish now but i'm sure my claybarring didn't get everything. Hopefully it'll stop raining long enough for me to do all that and take a picture this time. A little before shot before i start throwing money at it left and right and spruce up the engine bay and such.

Either you did something very wrong, or were using a cheap clay bar.

The clay bar (when done properly) does not stick to the paint.

What brand did you use?

strangely if you use the spray they tell you to, it doesn't stick at all and works the way it should work.

Be careful, certain chemicals break the clay down and make it a sticky paste. So if you're using something cheaper, best to test it out with a piece of the claybar first.

If you clay in the direct sunlight it will stick. Nuff said. If you were doing that, then tat was your problem; however, if that's not the case then you were doing something else wrong.
