HELP! 2001 Grand Am Fuel Filter

Someone HELP! I have a 2001 Grand Am SE1 Sedan and the fuel filter needs changing. OK, my boyfriend got the stupid clip thing off but he can't get the other end off. Any suggestions? Also, the fuel filter the store gave me has a different clip on it. Does this matter? AAACCK!! Help help help!!!
