Transaxle or Transmission Slips, Wont Shift, No Reverse, 2nd, 3rd or Overdrive, Erratic Shifts (Replace Driven Sprocket Support Assembly) #03-07-30-012 - (04/22/2003)
Transaxle or Transmission Slips, Won't Shift, No Reverse, 2nd, 3rd or Overdrive, Erratic Shifts (Replace Driven Sprocket Support Assembly)
2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, Malibu

2003 Oldsmobile Alero

2003 Pontiac Grand Am, Sunfire

with 4T40E or 4T45E Transmission

Condition
Some customers may comment that the transaxle/transmission slips, will not shift, will not backup/no reverse, no 2nd, 3rd or Overdrive gears and erratic shifts.

Cause

A sleeve (400) within the driven sprocket assembly (401) may have shifted due to insufficient interference fit, blocking the oil feed hole for the second clutch.

Correction
Disassemble the transaxle completely and inspect for damage to the 2nd clutch and other component parts.

Replace the driven sprocket support assembly. Refer to Driven Sprocket Support Assembly in Unit Repair in SI.

well lets see here..... just about every person I know who has a 99+ dpes have this problem and seeing as how I recently worked for a gm dealer as a service tech and have seen this problem MANY times.... this is a common problem but once again gm only helps those who just spent money on a new car so they dont have to buy it back.. unlike those of us who cant use the lemon law... hmmm...

Huh? what kind of thought process is that? If it was a problem a year ago there would've been a TSB for the 2002 GA cause THEY were the ones who had just spent money on a new car...
