For anyone who does their own brakes, do you use sandpaper or emery cloth to remove the glaze on the rotors when replacing pads? I just noticed it in the Haynes manual the other day and didn't do it the last couple times I changed my pads. Also what is the minimum wear thickness on the rotors? It suppoed to be cast into the rotors, what should I look for? One last thing, can the wear indicator be on the outside for the front pads? That was how it was after the time I had them done at a brake place and so I've done them the same since.

Usually the inside pad wears off quicker then the outside pad, that's why you're supposed to put the wear indicator on the inside.
For rotor thickness, the warping rotors TSB mentions: "If the rotor thickness is less than 25 mm (0.98 in), install a new rotor. If rotor thickness is greater than 25 mm (0.98 in), refinish the rotor."

Well I guess I have some odd wearing pads because my outside was WAY low and the inside was comparable to the new pads size. Thanks for the measurements, I'll have to check and see where I am at
