Hey great news... I'm not bone stock anymore.. yay.. Just built and installed my new CAI yesterday. Used a Hooker stainless Header J pipe. Bought some silicone couplers.. and a cone (well not exactly, kinda borrowing one at the moment)

The Old Guy and I were working on cutting it when we decided to try something different. My tube is 2 pieces.. Going for the idea that the less breaks in the tubing and straighter the flow the better. This tube fits perfectly.. its straight and everything fit perfect.. No clearance issues with the battery or anything.

Hey its not show quality chrome polished or anything.. buts functional and the 18 gauge tube was $33. Besides a little wet sanding and a little buffing and she'll look as good as polished aluminum ones. I might even just paint it.

Works great and sounds as good as any of the other CAIs out there.. Hope to have pictures up soon. CAI for well under $100.. I'm not gonna complain.

Here is the tube. Like I said.. its not all pretty and polished..yet...

Can't decide if I want to paint the tube or spend the time to sand it and paint it. Might make a good winter project.

Here it is installed.. I know my engine compartent is so dirty.. If you look in the headlamp compartment you can see the cone and in the background on the driveway is the pieces of the stock airbox..

Where'd you get your couplers from? I need to re-do my CAI but i dont have any pipe stuff... maybe home depot will have something I can use...

Summit Racing sells Matrix and driverfx.com had the vibrant performance brand. you will notice the different color coupler for between the TB and MAF... Tom and I decided that the Matrix one would be better for making the holes for the vaccuum line and the IAT.. its a little thicker and looks a little more solid than the Vibrant Performance ones that I used for the rest of the intake.

driverfx was like $3.80 a piece plus shipping.. and Summit wanted like $8 or 9 a piece for the Matrix ones.

Its comical.. Summit actually lists them as 3" to 3" reducers..

I think that looks just fine! I don't know wheter I would bother painting or sanding down... It looks good... But like you said, "it would be a good winter project"

Thanx man.. I may have to redo it or may HAVE to paint it.. I found out that when I bought the pipe that there is a good chance that they gave me regular steel not stainless. So I may have to take off the pipe and either treat it so I don't chance it rusting or will go out buy the stainless.

It was supposed to be stainless.. So I'm gonna see what summit can do for me.

Does that mean I'm going to be stuck with you up here again? j/k

I do think that you could coat the inside of the pipe with high tep ceramic paint. That not only would stop it from rusting, and the extra heat insulation won't hurt either.

yeah I'm definately gonna paint it.. I have the high temp clear coat.. hell I even have chrome duplicolor paint.. but summit will give me a discount on a new pipe thats aluminum. This way I can actually take the time to polish it up.. Then I'll probably sell the original tube..
