Went to a festival this weekend. Camped out overnight and woke up 5 in the morning and packed everything up and went to my car to see someone with a lifted pickup of some sort had backed into me bluckling my hood and a little bit of the nostril. Another hit and run. I hate druken *******s like that. Thats the second time my car has been hit by some fool and its only a 2003 car. This one is much more serious. Ill post pics when i get them. Damage is probably close to 1500 or maybe a little more.

My insurance is going to take car of it. But it still sucks. Im talking to the insurance company about getting the SC/T hood put on it instead of replacing the old stock.

it is a factory hood... you should just tell the body shop to get that hood and they can put that in the estimate... :)

Should i get it done at my Pontiac dealership or should i go with what Progressive is giving me. Some local body shop. They are giving me a rental car for really cheap too. I was wondering if that shop would beable to get that hood for me and match the paint right

just ask that body shop... see if they can pull up that hood in their system... matchin the paint shouldn't be a problem cuz whatever hood you get is gonna have to be painted so they'll just pull your paint code...plus your car is pretty new so i wouldn't worry about the paint not matching...

By law you ARE NOT required to go to the body shop Progressive tells you to go to. You as a customer are allowed to get estimates from any, and as many, bodyshops as you would like. How much they pay you is a different story. If they say go to shop A and they'll pay you $1500, but you would rather have shop B do it because you have seen their work, then you can go to shop B...but your still going to only get the $1500. So if it is more than that at the shop you want to go to then you have to pay the difference.

As for the hood, you'll be given whatever is cheaper...and I don't think the SC/T is cheaper than stock.

No. You have that choice as well, although you may have to fight for it... and Progressive sux ass when it comes to that. It would really help to find a shop that does good work AND will help you get full payment from Insurance. Just remember... the insurance CO has the obligation to return the car to pre-loss condition.

Ok, the prob with that is they will pay you the estimate... no more. The actual cost of painting, labor etc may vary. (and that's assuming a stock hood) So you will only get that much. They won't make any adjustments cause you're getting a diff. hood.

Thats understandable but can i get the SC/T put on and just take the estimate for being stock and just pay the difference for the remaing cost of the higher priced hood.

Basically you are bargaining with the insurance company as to how much it costs to fix your car...period. The bargaining is based on stock parts. They are gonna try and give you as little as possible while you try and get as much as possible. After you both come to an agreement, they will cut you a check, from there you will take it where you like and have what you want done to it. 99% of people use the check they receive to pay for the work. If it goes over you pay the difference, if it is under you make some money.

I put my car in the shop today. There going to completely replace my hood, the ram air by pontiac piece and the whole front bumper. Heres the part we had been discussing..... Ive been wanting the the SC/T hood and the insurance is fine with that but i have to pay the difference. The difference ends up being $566.77 and thats including installation and painting for final product. I was hoping it would be cheaper but GM is selling the hood for so much and the OEM hood is only $368. But then again if i get the hood now i would be saving close to $500+ instead of getting the hood later down the road. Does that sound about right? What do you all think?

Instead of getting the hood through a dealership, you should have bought it from gmpartsdirect.com I believe it is $899 shipped to the bodyshop.

Well damn no one told me that!! Thats alright i would have only saved $35. Plus i dont have to wait for the thing to ship. The hood should be there tomorrow at the shop that way i dont get stuck paying for rental car fees that go beyond my allotted time if i would have been waiting for the gmdirect to ship it.
