i notice my car lately at idle when im in drive that it doesnt really go when i let go of the gas pedal. i know its not suppose take off, lol, but its suppose to start rolling and its not really doing that. also when im going like 40mph or something and let off both pedals i notice it just doesnt coast. the car kind of slows down more then usual, like if i was in 1st gear on the shifter.
is their anything i can change. i dont know if i should get one of those tuneups from the dealership for like 150 bucks that changes all the fluids and filters. i just want my car to be fully charged back like it was brand new, i get oil changes ever 3mths or 3k miles. i have 40,000 miles on my car. any help, i would appreciate it.

Stupid question- is your emergency brake on?
Other than that, most places will give you a diagnostic check for free.

You wouldnt have the A/C on would you?
Also, it is just hot. Hot air not good for power.

no i have noticed this even when its cooler out. when u get an oil change, they dont check ur fuel filter or fuel injectors or anything like that do they. maybe i have a clogged fuel injector. i dont know, im just finding anything to blame it on my slight loss of power.

You may not like the sound of this,....but you could have a torque converter issue. Do you notice it shifting higher or more harsh?

Have you replaced your fuel filter lately? Maybe you picked up some bad gas.:)

well i was planning on doing the 30k mile inspection, but they said it doesnt include the fuel injectors or fuel filter. they said those are for 60k mile inspections. if its not too much money, i might just get those changed for the hell of it. who knows, it could be all in my head, but i dont think it is.

Honestly man if I were you I would just floor it once or twice, I noticed whenever my car seems a little sluggish I just gun it past the 5k rpm mark and its all good after that.

What RPM does your car idle at? Could be bad gas. Try some STP at your next full tank. My car is very sensative to bad gas.

well i have been switching off for about a month now on different gas. that could be it. i used to use the same gas, but lately i have been putting in cheaper gas (in price). i used to use shell constantly.
as far as the fuel filter, it could be that. i will check into that. i want to get one of those inspection things done on my car. it only has 40k, but i would still like to go through with it, to keep my car clean throughout.

Definitely change the fuel filter (recommended every 30,000 miles). I thought it was supposed to go 60,000 miles, and my fuel pump took a sh*t on me. It's a piece of cake to change yourself - just make sure you relieve the fuel pressure first. There is a valve (called a Schrader valve), on the passenger side at the top of your engine, that releases the pressure. It looks like a big tire valve stem, with a black cap on it - just make sure you put a shop rag or something between the valve and whatever you use to press the stem in...

I change mine every 15K, not 30K. The part is inexpensive and it takes minutes to change. Your engine is under a constant fuel pressure and if your engine can not receive that fuel, there is your bottleneck.
Keep your filters clean and you'll never have a problem.

munruss, i understand what ur saying. i thought the fuel filter was a pain in the ass to install. i read alot of people said it sucks for the 99 and 00 yrs of grand ams. i would like to save myself the 30 or 40 bucks if its easy enough to install myself. can u write a small "how to" on this. i would appreciate it.

Your best bet is to purchase an AC Delco filter and bring it to your local service station and have them do it. That's what I do.
If you change your filter you don't need fuel injector cleaner.
