Rearview Mirror Swap

I have an 03' GrandAm GT1 and would like to change out the factory Donnelly mirror with map lights for one of the mirrors with compass, temp, map lights, and auto dim. Does anyone know what the wires are from the factory harness? I also need info on if the door open sensor is on a positive or negative circuit. :confused: I tried the harness directly into a Gentex mirror but the dome light always stayed on and the compass/temp never worked. I dont want to cut the factory harness. Any help??

airman97 , i might be interested in your old 03 mirror . i am trying to find out if the changes to the 03 mirror is better and in what way to the mirror on my 2000 gagt ... is it mint no scratches etc what so ever and neatly taken down from your windshield ....thanks troy and would have to be a super deal . ps : live in nova-scotia canada....email me at ramairgrandam@hotmail.com

I installed a gentex mirror in my 2002 gagt there are seven wires that you have to tap into factory wires one is power for auto dim one is ground two wires go to the temp probe one is for dome lights one is when you put the car into reverse it disable auto dim and one is for switched power but you have to tap into the factory wires. All the wires that you need are located in the drivers footwell area just pull back the carpet get a test light to test which wires are which. Let me know if you would like some pics of the mirror installed.

Hey, I was thinking about doing something like this today!

Does anyone know what auto-dim mirror will work with a 99 GA GT? Also, what miror like the one above (auto-dim, temp, etc) will work with my car?

www.gentex.com is your best friend, Ebay those you can find great deals on them, Cyrix has all the pinouts for em, used to have mine all set up perfect. With a little wiring they work great.

I got a Gentex in mine, works pretty good...

but definately play the watch game on eBay for it, usually go for 70 - 90, I got mine for $48.

With a map light mirror you have three wires.
Ground
Constant
and switch

What i did was i got some cat5 networking cable took one pair out. I connected the pair to the ground and constant. I then ran it across the windshield and down the pass. pillar to the fuse box, I grounded it on a bolt in the fuse box. I then connected the pos. wire the pos. wire of the glove box light. That way the map light would turn off after 15min if i leave them on by mistake.

Later on I got a switch box

So i ran the switch line to the box. So i can turn both map lights on with the press of a button.
