I have a 96 Grand Am...(if you couldnt tell by my name)
Anyway, do the 3 temperature knobs under the radio just pull out? I wanted to get some clear ones (off an Alero or Cavalier...I'm not sure which years are clear, I know the Grand Am ones are that translucent red...)
I was just wondering if I could yank them out, and figured I better check first.

yes, they just pull right off. might take a little bit of force the first time, but they come off. I just stripped mine down to the red plastic, got some pointers if you have to take the crap off of the Alero ones ( I might do that now, didnt know they had clear...)

Ha, I read somewhere that they just pulled off, but I certainly wanted to make sure before I go ripping them off and finding out otherwise.
Anyway, I'm gonna visit a junkyard sometime and look for old cavalier ones (my friend said they are clear underneath). This same friend also told me he has old Camaro ones, but I doubt they will fit.
Besides, I'd rather test it out with some knobs from the junkyard first.
Anyone know what kind of paint is the best on these. I'd like for it to be slightly translucent so the light shines through it at night. (Maybe a silver color).

i just went to the junk yard.. and i have some from a 95 grand am boiling, right now. haha!
You might wanna make sure that they fit.. i tried ones from a 2000 grand am and they are shaped different. there is a how to on how to do this, in the how to section.
They suggested there that you put a light coat of whatever color you wanted, and then use a few coats of clear coat, duplicolor.

While I was driving tonight, I was thinking what color would look best with the current scheme (stock haha).
I figured the translucent red that is underneat the dials now would go best (even though I think it looks like crap) since the dials are red.
My other choice was black haha, which would be a waste of time.
I think I'm going to try a deep blue, or something...can't hurt to test it out.
Maybe I'll look for a deeper red, or something.
