I know some of you have done this but I want some opinions. I removed that black metal piece arounf the headlight bulb. It is supposed to be brighter and I will find out tomorrow. Does it get too hot on the headlight casing though? I have stock bulbs and want to change them. What would be good and will not burn the plastic. I want to get a bright white as possible.

It only seems brighter because the light isn't focused in a beam as well, it is shooting off in all unnecessary directions. And yes, it is a very good way to blind people.
an opaque piece of metal does not "focus" light.... it only BLOCKS light from going out of the sides....To me it lights up a lot more of the road around you instead of just right in front of you....The only person you will blind is the raod-kill on the yellow line.
When you take it out be careful not to drop it into the housing!!

I just did mine today. I have to say I like the look of it. It's a little brighter and the light is much wider than it was with the metal thing on. Didn't get brighted at all though. My question is, do you guys think painting the metal thing a glossy red color to match the car would be dumb? I can't see it hurting the light pattern any more than the flat black finish of the metal deflector already did. I'm just worried about the aesthetic value of it. Do you think it's worth doing?

Not sure, but it might reflect red a bit in the housing, cops might think you have red light at the front of your vehicle.

I'm gonna give it a go soon...I don't have a digicam unfortunately, so I can't post pics, but I'll be sure to let you all know how it turns out!

By the way, I'm gonna use red 500 degree engine paint. Do you guys think that the extremely high temperatures of the bulbs will just fry the paint right off the metal??? I'm gonna see how it looks, but I really like the broadened range of light I get without the deflectors in there.

i don't think the housings would be able to take being heated over 500 degrees, so no, as long as you use a high temp paint, i don't see it messing with the paint.
