I just thought I would share my experience with the newly installed silver faced gauges from the procarparts.com website. The most inconvenient part of this kit is it comes in 6 pieces that don't line up perfectly. On the speedo side, there is a small gap between the speedometer and the svs lights on the top. Also, the gauges come with only ONE hole to go over the 2 pieces next to the round part of the needle (where it turns). The second hole has to be drilled. Once the gauges were lined up and tested, both the speedometer and RPM needles stuck to the gauges and would not move. Finally, after an hour and a half of adjustments, the speedometer started working smoothly, but the RPMs have to be redone today. My final complaint is that the gauges arrived in dirty condition. I had to rub off dirt spots before i had them installed. To put it plain and simple, these gauges are poor quality. I must admit they look very good at night, so I plan on keeping them as long as they work.

You didn't take out one of the needle stops.. that's in the instructions on the site. Also if I were you I would have left off the covers for the dummy lights.. discussed in another thread too :/

I have heard on many different car forums that all the gauges were pretty much junk. Hence the reason why I think they reduced their prices.

i told you they wouldnt line up. you, me, and alot other people have had the same problem. its not a huge gap, but come on now, ur a company, make this **** right.

Seth- I didn't see any needle stop on that POS.

Update: I took my car back twice more today because the needles were sticking and still no luck. The speedometer is still sticking but not so bad now. This experience will lead me to another night of drinking. Thank you Amateur Car Parts.

The needle stop is on the stock cluster. A little black pin. you just pull it out

Have you even bothered to read my How-To on installing these things?

First off, these gauges are meant to fit a 99-00 cluster. Next, this company is pretty much a r i c e r company, so what do you expect, BMW quality?

Be lucky you weren't one of the first few people to get them. I paid $100 for mine. The reason they lowered the price is because more people started ordering them, or so I would assume. They are the only company that makes these for our cars so you have to either live with them, or go with the PFYC ones.

As for your needles sticking, it's because your cluster is raising at the base of the needle; therefore, causing it to not move.

Get yourself some double-sided OUTDOOR carpet tape and put tape over the entire backing (Even in the little area by the base of the needles. Line it up, and stick it down. Your problem should be fixed. Also, try pushing the base of the needle down to make sure you didn't pull it up too much.

More to come.... Maybe...

They are just meant to fit 99s. 00 have 2 needle stops on each side of the RPMs and the speedometer. 99s just have one needle stop. (1 for the RPMs, 1 for the speedometer)

Thanks Aaron, I knew the cluster changed in 01, I just assumed the 99 and 00 were the same.

Anyone else have this problem??

How exactly do they "Burn out"?!? They don't use light bulbs, they actually use a gel (or whatever the heck it is), which should never burn out. I'd say a wire came loose, or your rotary switch went bad.

No, i probably should have read that first. The kid who installed them built a civic show car, and he's an expert with this stuff so I figured he already knew. I will try that outdoor carpet tape and see what happens.

Leave your car on for about 5 minutes. On mine, it seems like they needed to build up the juice to power them. It took me a couple times thinking they were fubar before I realized this.....

peeps that funny u say that cause with my underbody neons, they stay on for like 10 secs and then **** off when i first start the car, but after like 10 minutes with the car on, then my neons stay on all the time. i dont get these things, and u can see that in my thread in this section.

btw, outside of the minor fitment issues, i love my procarparts gauges.

99.9% of the time that's the problem. Make sure that all your wires are STILL attached & Crimped good. Then come back to us.

are u kidding me, did u happen to read what i wrote and some other people wrote? mine dont line up right and so do alot of others as well. we should take a toll of how many people have had problems with their gauges. i know of at least 5 people that can say their stuff went wrong. like i said, i love the way they look, but they dont fit right. their about 2 centimeters short of covering my stock cluster.

but if u like them, then all power to ya.

Aaron, is the 2000's speedo and tach gauges raised up from the dummy lights, or is it perfectly flat like the 2001+?

Are you going to the GAP? If so I can help you install them, if you decide to get them.

Take a look at my How-To. If you have the raised Tach/Speedo like mine, you can see how they look. These aren't Grade A quality. They're just made by a company run by foreigners trying to make a buck or two. Remember, this company targets Ri Ce...

Raze, I'll try and help ya... I have tape so don't worry about it. if you hooked it up to where I have mine, it's possible it's not contacting all the time.

The stock wires are so tiny that it's hard to use a wire tap and not have it loose contact every once in a while. Anyway, we'll see what's up.

I don't see what the big deal is. I have installed a couple of those sets. I don't use the 2 pieces that cover the dummy lights. I have had problems with getting them to stick on solid so I used some "Right Stuff" gasket maker. Hey the stuff works on my tail lights so why not use it on my gauges!! I had a problem with one set not powering on right away but when I changed the order of where they connect to the harness they worked...

Update: The only thing that went right at GAP for me was Panacea's install of these gauges. He took them all off and re-adhered them, leaving the dummy lights off. I noticed a few people at GAP did the same so i figured maybe that was my problem. First, he left the dummy lights on and the gauges worked only for a few hours. Then he took them off and 3 days later, they work fine. Thank you mike (panacea) and the beer cooler is always open to you :D

hey.......i just installed this gauges yesterday.....i luv em.....couldnt have spent $55 in any better way (other then porn tapes of course :D) anyways......i ran into a couple problems that ill fix soon.......ya have to make ur own hole in the tacho and speedometer gauges.......they only come w/ one whole and the 2000+s have 2 holes on each gauge.....the other problem is that i accidently pulled the fuel gauge needle out so its stuck.....doesnt move.......ill be fixing that soon tho.....ill snap some not-so-good pix tomorrow....

p.s. they lined up perfectly for me..... ( 99.1% i'd say)

hey.. u dont have to drill any holes.. just pull out the extra needle stops

GTluver
07-31-2003, 07:21 AM
yea i did that but i thought what if those needles were there for a reason.........so i was worried that the gauge needes would be flying and doing 380s so instead i drilled holes (bad idea too :( )oh well......what did everyone used as adhesive......i used quicktite (dries/bonds almost instantly)

99's didn't come with the second needle stop... hasn't hurt my car yet.

Yes, I opted to use double-sided interior/exterior carpet tape because it's extremely thin and very sticky.

Foam tape is too thick. The tape has to be paper thin!

I have both double-sided poster tape, and double-sided indoor/outdoor carpet tape, and both are holding up nicely!

The carpet tape is the best and the stickiest, so use that.

do u mean the cluster overlay or the shifter one? the cluster one = procarparts, and the shifter is from autoaccents.....maybe my chepo digi cam is giving off a diff color? cuz i know some cameras, for example, give off an orange color when the real color is red lol
