good, if you clicked this thread, you must want the samne thing i do, to see them, although i have a request, to see them on mine! ok...after three days of research, i have not come up with much other than this is not supposed to be easy. I have read thread after thread, still, no help. ok, sitting around today thinking about how to make this work, i thought of something, what if i were to get a rim with a very low offset, like 15 or lower. wouldnt that take some of the width and dissplace it outside the wheel well? i was thinking with a low offset rim, just make sure you get enough offset that there is like a one inch lip, and it basicly takes it back to a 7.5 inch rim behind the hub right? does this make sense?

No, I dont want to see 20s on a GA. That would look horrible. If you want a ghetto sled, go buy an old Caddy or Lincoln.

How to do it? Lot's of custom work, and removing your fenderwell. Agreed, it would look ghey. Oh yeah, you'd have to have very LOW profile tires too.

2000xtypega, that actually does make some sense. What I would do is just get the rims I want and do whatever it takes to make them fit. If that offset doesnt work. Just do a little custom work.

well, first off, i've seen 20s on a grand am in person, and they look good. secondly, to get them to fit, you have to bend up the edges of the spring perch a bit to clear the wheel, and maybe roll the fenders a little bit.

he says he has custom made struts for his to fit, so you may want to contact him. good luck with it, and it is possible. if i had a few more pennies laying around i'd probably have to use good 'ol hydraulics and lay the puppy out over 20s; now THAT would be tight.

If you go with an offset that places the wheel outside of the wheel well, you won't be able to turn. There is not alot of room in front or back of the wheel...it will rub when ever you turn the steering wheel.

NO thanks...

20's go way beyond looking good, and cross over into looking stupid - just my opinion though...

...and it seems to me that a crack in the road is just about big enough to scratch the rims.

i've got a couple friends that roll on 20s with 35 series tires, and the durability isn't a problem. looks is the only issue here, and, from someone who's seen 20s on a grand am in person; i think they look just fine.

You probably have to go with 205/35/20 to get them to fit.... lol lol lol lol

245/35/20s will fit. that's what i've seen on grand ams.

20's won't fit without modding the angle of your suspension in a ga or alero

Ghetto sled??? :nono: They actually look good on suvs and larger cars like Mercedes S-class, Lexus GS, Bentlys, Maybachs, etc.

This is what happens when a guy has WAYYYYY too much money in his wallet and he doesn't know what to do with it. Nice color and mod ideas, but way overdone IMHO.

Ok, that makes me want to yack. That looks HIDEOUS. There's no way that other guy's rims were 20's if those are 20's. That's just way too much for a mid-size car. If you wanna put 20's on a vehicle, get a friggin' Escalade.

20's are made for "big body" vehicles....not small cars.......even the R I C E R S in all their gheyness don't do 20's.....So if you did- you would be worse than a R I C E R !

umm I would rather see some *nice looking* 20's on a GA than some glowing washer nozzles, chrome wipers, stickers, seatbelt pads, PAINTED TAIL LIGHTS, and glowing exhaust tip... R I C E R S can't afford 20's in the first place. Ricers try to get the most mods they can get for under $20 a piece...

PACE
07-23-2003, 08:29 AM
No- The reason is that ricers at least know how bad a 30- 40 lbs. each wheel will affect the performance of the vehicle.......Anyways BIG CHROME wheels are so 1995.....Once again I repeat myself-

FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION !.....

"Looks" are a DISTANT second

I'd rather have a POS that blows the doors off Vette's than a Lambo looking thing that runs 17's

20 inch wheels are for Sedan Deville's and Escalades...Big body cruisers....NOT SPORT COMPACTS !!!!!:tool:

My 18" Volks were lighter than my stock 16" wheels... Volk Racing makes 19's as well... For those that don't know about big lightweight wheels here you go... http://www.rayswheels.co.jp/e_index.html

I know bud...My 17" SubZero's weigh 15.5 lbs.....MY POINT is that this guy is not talking about some nice racing wheels.....He is talking about.....as he says....."BLING BLING" chrome 20's..... If he wanted to put some nice wheels on there that were big I would applaude him.....He has started like 3-4 threads on this same topic.....He wants the ghetto-thug-chrome 20s....not something functional.....

After he bolts these on, his ET will match his wheel size ! lol

LMAO I haven't read the other posts by this dude. I haven't been here for awhile... I see your point now and agree.

Yes, I knew it was a photo shop from another thread. I was just commenting on how idiotic that picture looks. wtf As has been said previously, if you're going for "bling bling" on a GA, you're pretty sad. Put the money into performance mods, classy appearance mods, and a nice set of 17" or 18" wheels. I applaud the efforts of anyone that has the handywork skills to make 20's fit, but it's just not something you wanna do...not smart...:(

Bling bling....sigh. Grand Am's aren't escalades or even caprices...they're Grand Am's. Largest rim I'd put on the GT is 18"...any larger it's all show, too slow. Besides, I saw 20's on a grand am...looked like the car was raised for offroading or something. Think about it...it would raise the car 2". And I think he had to customize the suspension so it was higher yet so the rims didn't scrape anything underneath the fenders. Just don't do it...get 18's or something, split the difference with me for helping you through this tragic time you're going through.

I have a freind whos putting 19s on his 03 Cavi, which is just as ghey (if not gheyer) as 20s on a GA since the car is like half the size... I like big rims, but not when the are performance robbing. Looks like I have to keep the ChromeTechs :( ... Why cant a company make 16lb 16" or 17" rims for 150 a peice or less with a 115x5 bolt pattern?

PFYC has a whole assortment of 16" and 17" rims that are less than 150 a piece with a 115x5 pattern. I don't know if they weigh 16 lbs. or not, but they're still nice looking rims for the money. Check it out...
