Well today i painted my SE grills white, and i used krylon fushion GLOSS WHITE. Now i have never used it before so i was kinda egar to see how good it worked. As of right now it looks pretty good, and i would like to put them back in a few days or so. Now the question is, do you think i should slap on a clear coat on those grills or not, i mean i think that its glossy enough as it is, dont want it to glossy, but i was wondering if it would really help with the chipping or not? I dont know much about krylon and if that fushion crap chips or not, but just wanted to get the heads up because i really dont want those grills to start chipping on me.

Well, considering no paint is supposed to be subdued to 65mph+ bug splatters, rock chips, or road debris, I think it's inevitable. :)
A clear coat could help, as it will be the first thing to chip. BUT... You have to wait seven days now before you recoat, or put anything else over top of it. The Semi-Gloss or Gloss is going to be the most durable (Paint wise, and also clear coat wise). It would also be in your best interest to lightly steel wool the paint to give the clearcoat something to adhere to. If not, you're clearcoat won't adhere properly.
Something I just thought of.... Polyurethane. Use a water based polyurethane and I'm sure it'll protect very nicely. You have to make sure it's an exteiror though...
Only stipulation, you'll have to steel wool the paint so that the poly has somethign to adhere to. Put a couple coats of that on and you're in business! Don't worry about the paint being glossy, the poly will make up for it. :)
Note to self: Polyurethane your ggutter guard next time. No more worries then.

Water-Based are less likely, even so you probably won't notice it too much.
There are a few that do not yellow. IIRC the Helmsman isn't supposed to yellow on you. If I remember I'll check at work tomorrow and see if I can't find any exterior that won't yellow. Oh, and since most spray paints are oil-based, you should be able to use an oil-based poly.

I painted my grills "safety red" about a month ago and used 2 coats of clear coat and have not had any problems with chipping yet. If there are any chips that do happen, just take them off do a little touch up. It's not like it takes a ton of time to take them off and put them on again.
